Ariel Maughan
Ariel Leishman Maughan (April 26, 1923 – August 4, 1997) was an American professional basketball player. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Maughan attended Utah State University and started his professional career in the Basketball Association of America in 1946, his career lasted five seasons and he played for four teams. Most of his points came from under the basket, although he received the nickname "Ace" for his shooting ability. He was also well known for being able to leap high enough to drop in the basketball with his hands above the rim. Maughan ended his career with 2,046 points in 259 games (7.9 ppg). Susan Maughan (born Marian Maughan, 1 July 1938) is an English singer who released successful singles in the 1960s. Her most famous and successful song, " Bobby's Girl" (a cover of the Marcie Blane single), reached number three in the UK Singles Chart at Christmas time in 1962. Sharon Patricia Maughan (born 22 June 1950) is a British actress. Early life Sharon Mughan grew up in Kirkby, Lancashire, with her four siblings. She later changed her surname to "Maughan". Russell Lowell Maughan (March 28, 1893 – April 21, 1958) was an officer in the United States Army and a pioneer aviator. His career began during World War I, and spanned the period in which military aviation developed from a minor arm of the Army Signal Corps to the huge Army Air Forces on the verge of becoming a separate service. Maughan became a pursuit pilot and served in combat in France in 1918 with the United States Army Air Service. Following the war, he remained in the Air Service and became a test pilot. In 1924 Maughan completed the first flight across the continental United States within the hours of daylight of a single calendar day. Peter Maughan
Peter Maughan (May 7, 1811 – April 24, 1871) was an early pioneer of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who settled the Cache Valley of Utah under the direction of Brigham Young. Life Maughan was the sixth child of William Maughan and Martha Wilson and was born at Milton, Cumberland, England. As a youth, he worked in the lead mines at Alston, England. He married Ruth Harrison on October 1, 1831 and six children were born to them. Peter and Ruth were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alston in 1838 and were active in the branch. Ruth died on March 26, 1841, shortly after the birth of their sixth child. Noel John Maughan (born 20 December 1936) was an Australian politician and the Nationals member for Rodney in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1989 until 2006. Sturt Street is a street in the south-western sector of the centre of Adelaide, South Australia. It runs east-west between West Terrace to King William Street, passing through Whitmore Square. After crossing King William Street, it continues as Halifax Street. History The street is one of the many geographical locations in South Australia that are named after the explorer Charles Sturt. There was once a length of tram line along the western end of Sturt Street, which on 18 September 1918 was extended via West Terrace and then Anzac Highway (then Bay Road) to Keswick. Margaret Maughan (19 June 192820 May 2020) was a British competitive archer, dartcher and bowls competitor. She was Britain's first gold medallist at the Paralympic Games, and won four gold and two silver medals at the Games. She lit the cauldron at the Olympic Stadium in London at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Early life Maughan was from Lancashire, England, and was one of four children. Her father was a miner. Maughan worked as a science teacher. Maughan was paralysed from the waist down and left unable to walk by a road accident in Nyasaland (now Malawi) in 1959. John Maughan Barnett
John Maughan Barnett (21 March 1867 – 31 July 1938) was a New Zealand organist, choirmaster, pianist, composer and conductor. Early life He was born in Leamington, Warwickshire, England on 21 March 1867. He studied piano and composition at the Crystal Palace School in Sydenham, London. Career Barnett was organist and choirmaster at churches in Tunbridge Wells and St Leonards, Sussex. In 1890, for health reasons, he emigrated to Hobart, Tasmania. There he was organist and choirmaster at the cathedral, moving to the same position in Napier, New Zealand in 1893. In England, Tasmania and New Zealand he taught, composed and performed on the organ and piano. From 1895 he was organist and choirmaster at St John's Church in Wellington, becoming city organist in 1908. He became Auckland city in organist in 1912 until he retired in 1932.
