Mattlidens Gymnasium
Mattlidens Gymnasium is a Swedish speaking upper secondary school in Espoo, Finland. It was founded in 1977 as a standalone upper secondary school from Drumsö Svenska Samskola. With nearly 700 students, the school is the largest Swedish speaking high school in Finland. The school is an International Baccalaureate affiliate school, with about 150 students studying for the IB Diploma. The non-IB students opt to study towards the Swedish-speaking version of the Finnish Matriculation Exam (see: Studentexamen). IB intake is usually 50 students. In the Finnish Matriculation Examination, Mattlidens Gymnasium has consistently placed in the top 10%. Education In Finland
The educational system in Finland consists of daycare programmes (for babies and toddlers), a one-year "pre-school" (age six), and an 11-year compulsory basic comprehensive school (age seven to age eighteen). Nowadays secondary general academic and vocational education, higher education and adult education are compulsory. During their nine years of common basic education, students are not selected, tracked, or streamed. There is also inclusive special education within the classroom and instructional efforts to minimize low achievement. After basic education, students must choose to continue with secondary education in either an academic track (''lukio'') or a vocational track (''ammattioppilaitos''), both of which usually take three years and give a qualification to continue to tertiary education. Espoo
Espoo (, ; sv, Esbo) is a city and municipality in the region of Uusimaa in the Republic of Finland. It is located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland, bordering the cities of Helsinki, Vantaa, Kirkkonummi, Vihti and Nurmijärvi while surrounding the enclaved town of Kauniainen. Drumsö Svenska Samskola
Lauttasaari (; sv, Drumsö) is an island in Helsinki, Finland, about west of the city centre. Together with some surrounding unpopulated small islands, Lauttasaari is also a district of Helsinki. With 23,226 residents as of 2017, the island is Finland's second largest by population, after Fasta Åland. Its land area is 3.85 km. Lauttasaari is primarily a residential area but also contains services, including several marinas and canoe clubs. Although close to the city centre, Lauttasaari has not been entirely built up. Notably, almost the entire shoreline remains in public use, with footpaths, beaches, playgrounds, patches of forest, and rocky outcrops. The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. Matriculation Exam (Finland)
The Finnish Matriculation Examination (Finnish ''ylioppilastutkinto'', Swedish ''studentexamen'') is the matriculation examination taken at the end of secondary education to qualify for entry into university. In practice, the test also constitutes the high school's final exam(s), although there is a separate diploma on graduating from high school, based not on the exam, but on the grades of individual courses. Since 1919, the test has been arranged by a national body, the Matriculation Examination Board. Before that, the administration of the test was the responsibility of the University of Helsinki. Under a previous law, successful completion entitled one to enroll as a university student, initially without the need for an entrance exam (hence "matriculation"). Carl Haglund
Carl Christoffer ”Calle” Haglund (born 29 March 1979 in Espoo) is the CEO of Veritas, a Finnish Pension insurance company, and a former Finnish politician, former chairman of the Swedish People's Party and the former Minister of Defence. He was member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2012. Haglund was elected chairman of his party in June 2012. Mark Levengood
Mark Levengood, (born 10 July 1964 in Lejeune Base Camp, North Carolina, in the United States), is a Finnish journalist, writer, and television host who is working in Sweden. He is a Swedish-speaking Finn who grew up in Helsinki. He is the husband of Jonas Gardell. They have one child each, a boy, who is Gardell's biological child, and a girl, who is Levengood's child. Levengood was born to an American father and a Sweden-Finnish mother. On April 1, 2008, Levengood was named UNICEF ambassador. He is a member of the board of the University of Gotland. Marcus Grönholm
Marcus Ulf Johan Grönholm (born February 5, 1968) is a Finnish former rally and rallycross driver, being part of a family of the Swedish-speaking population of Finland lineage. His son, Niclas Grönholm, is an upcoming FIA World Rallycross Championship driver. Grönholm's nicknames are either "Bosse" (mainly in his native Finland and the Scandinavian countries) or "Magic Marcus". Grönholm is one of the most successful WRC drivers of all time, ranking third in rally wins (30), and winning two championships, in 2000 and 2002. After Peugeot withdrew from the World Rally Championship, Grönholm moved to Ford for the 2006 season and placed second in the drivers' world championship, losing out to Sébastien Loeb by one point. Cris Af Enehielm
Cristina Marianne (Cris) af Enehielm (born March 24, 1954, Helsinki) is a Finnish artist. Af Enehielm graduated as a visual artist from Fria konstskolan in Helsinki in 1977, and as an actress from the Theatre Academy in Helsinki in 1981. She is the mother of two sons: Andreas and Theodore. Af Enehielm has worked as an actress in radio, television and film, as a visual artist, performance artist, singer, director, costume designer, set designer, educator and lecturer, and as teacher in acting at the Theatre Academy in Helsinki. Sean Bergenheim
Sean Bergenheim (born February 8, 1984) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild. Playing career Bergenheim played in Jokerit of the SM-liiga for three seasons, from 2001 to 2004, winning the Finnish championship in 2002. He was drafted by the New York Islanders as their first pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, 22nd overall.
