Matthias Buchholz
Matthias Buchholz (born 14 December 1957, in Hamburg) is a German violist and professor of viola in Cologne and Geneva. Biography Buchholz began his musical training in Hamburg and continued his studies at the University of Cincinnati, in Detmold, and at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He was a laureate of the important prizes at international viola competitions in Bonn (1978), Los Angeles (1981) and Budapest (1984). Since 1976, Buchholz has given concerts as a soloist and in a variety of ensembles such as the American String Quartet and the Auryn Quartet in Europe, North and South America, and in the Far East. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Linos-Ensemble, recording and touring throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. Auryn Quartet
The Auryn Quartet was a German string quartet. Founded in 1981, the members were Andreas Arndt (cello), Stewart Eaton (viola), Matthias Lingenfelder (*1959) and Jens Oppermann (*1960), both violin. After winning several early awards - including the London International Competition (1982), the ARD International Music Competition (1982), and the main prize at the European Broadcasting Competition in Bratislava (1989) - they had the opportunity to treat the classic repertoire in particular depth thanks to the ongoing interactions between the original personnel. Nobuko Imai
, is a Japanese classical violist with an extensive career as soloist and chamber musician. Since 1988 she has played a 1690 Andrea Guarneri instrument. Biography Imai began her musical training at the age of six. She began studying at Tokyo's Toho Gakuen School of Music and switched to viola there. Then she went to the United States where she studied at the Juilliard School and Yale University. She won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1967 and won highest prize at both the Geneva International Music Competition and ARD International Music Competition at Munich.
