Matthew Rothenberg
Matthew Rothenberg (born February 16, 1965) is an American journalist and co-author of "You're Better Than Your Job Search" with TheLadders.com CEO Marc Cenedella. Rothenberg, the son of American poet Jerome Rothenberg, worked at ''MacWEEK'' in San Francisco, where he was reportedly author of the magazine's "Mac the Knife" rumor column and its online counterpart, The Electric Knife. He was editor-in-chief of ''eWeek'' magazine and editorial director at Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. and currently works as editor-in-chief at TheLadders, a leading site for senior-level job seekers. Jerome Rothenberg
Jerome Rothenberg (born December 11, 1931) is an American poet, translator and anthologist, noted for his work in the fields of ethnopoetics and performance poetry. Early life and education Jerome Rothenberg was born and raised in New York City, the son of Polish-Jewish immigrant parents and is a descendant of the Talmudist Rabbi Meir of Rothenburg. He attended the City College of New York, graduating in 1952, and in 1953 he received a Master's Degree in Literature from the University of Michigan. Rothenberg served in the U.S. Army in Mainz, Germany from 1953 to 1955, after which he did further graduate study at Columbia University, finishing in 1959. He lived in New York City until 1972, when he moved first to the Allegany Seneca Reservation in western New York State, and later to San Diego, California, where he lives presently. ''MacWEEK'' was a controlled-circulation weekly Apple Macintosh trade journal based in San Francisco founded by Michael Tchong, John Anderson, Glenn Patch, Dick Govatski, and Michael F. Billings. It featured a back-page rumor column penned by the pseudonymous Mac the Knife. Founded in 1987, it was acquired by Ziff-Davis in 1988. In 1998, as part of a strategy change, the print publication was relaunched as ''eMediaWeekly'', which caused a number of its existing sponsors to withhold their advertising. ''eMediaWeekly'' was published from August 24, 1998 to February 1, 1999. Mac The Knife
Mac the Knife was the pen name (inspired by the homophonous well-known song "Mack the Knife") of an anonymous gossip columnist for the (now defunct) Apple Macintosh-focused trade publication ''MacWEEK''. Mac the Knife was always written by a single writer, but the identity of that writer changed more than once over the long publishing history of ''MacWEEK''. The column was known not only for its wide-ranging and often accurate Macintosh-related rumors, but for its gonzo, Hunter S. Thompson-like style. Tipsters who provided juicy gossip were provided with coffee mugs emblazoned with the Knife's logo.
