Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Gauteng Cricket Team
Gauteng (formerly Transvaal) is the first-class cricket team of the southern parts of Gauteng province of South Africa. The team was called ''Transvaal'' from April 1890 to April 1997 (the area north of Johannesburg, including Pretoria being part of the Northerns, formerly ''Northern Transvaal''). Under the main competition's various names – the Currie Cup, then the Castle Cup, now the SuperSport Series – Transvaal/Gauteng cricket team has been the most successful of the South African domestic sides, winning 25 times. The club's most glorious period was the 1980s when they were dubbed the "Mean Machine". 2015 Africa T20 Cup
The 2015 Africa T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket tournament held in South Africa from 4 September to 4 October 2015, as a curtain-raiser to the 2015–16 South African domestic season. Organized by Cricket South Africa, it featured thirteen South African provincial teams, as well as a Zimbabwean development XI and the national sides of Kenya and Namibia. The sixteen participating teams were split into four pools of four, with the teams from each pool playing all of their matches at one ground across a single weekend. 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge
The 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge was a List A cricket competition that took place in South Africa from 15 October 2017 to 8 April 2018. The competition was played between the thirteen South African provincial teams and Namibia. The tournament was played in parallel with the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup, a first-class competition which featured the same teams. Northerns were the defending champions. Following Namibia's fixture against Free State in February 2018, Namibia's captain Sarel Burger and vice-captain Craig Williams retired from cricket. The final was played between Gauteng and North West at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 8 April 2018. North West won the match to claim their first tile, beating Gauteng by 34 runs. For the purposes of the SuperSport Series, Easterns has merged with Northerns (formerly Northern Transvaal) to form the Titans. Eastern Transvaal was spun off from Northern Transvaal at a meeting in Actonville, Benoni. 2018 Africa T20 Cup
The 2018 Africa T20 Cup was the fourth and final edition of the Africa T20 Cup, a Twenty20 cricket tournament. It was held in South Africa in September 2018, as a curtain-raiser to the 2018–19 South African domestic season. Provincial side KwaZulu-Natal Inland were the defending champions. Organised by Cricket South Africa, the tournament was played between twenty teams. Sixteen of these teams had participated in previous years – thirteen South African provincial teams, national representative sides of Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe – and they were joined by South African teams Limpopo and Mpumalanga along with Nigeria and Uganda. The invitation was initially extended to Ghana, but they declined. 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup
The 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup was a domestic Twenty cricket tournament that took place in South Africa in September 2019, as a curtain-raiser to the 2019–20 South African domestic season. It was played between the thirteen South African provincial teams, along with Limpopo and Mpumalanga. This was the sixth edition of the CSA Provincial T20 Cup, which was last played in the 2015–16 season. With only domestic teams from South Africa taking part, the tournament returned in place of the Africa T20 Cup, which had been held since 2015. On the opening day of matches, Jonathan Vandiar scored an unbeaten century for Northerns against Gauteng in Pool A.
