Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) ( si, මත්තල රාජපක්ෂ ජාත්යන්තර ගුවන්තොටුපළ, translit=Mattala Rājapakṣa Jātyantara Guvantoṭupaḷa; ta, மத்தல ராஜபக்ஷ சர்வதேச விமானநிலையம், translit=Mattala Rājapakṣa Carvatēca Vimāṉanilaiyam) is an international airport serving southeast Sri Lanka. It is located in the town of Mattala, from Hambantota. It is the first greenfield airport and the third international airport in the country, after Ratmalana International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. MRIA was opened in March 2013 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who ordered the construction of the airport. Unnanthi Piyankara Jayaratne, MP (born September 27, 1964) is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Early life and education Born to S. D. R. Jayaratne, a former member of parliament from Chilaw and Deputy Minister of Fisheries. Jayaratne was educated at Royal College Colombo and gained his higher education at the National Institute of Business Management. Political career He was the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Youth Organisation and a member of the Wayamba provincial council from 1993 to 1998. Yala (යාල) National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public, and also adjoining parks. Arugam Bay ( ta, அறுகம் குடா), known locally as "Arugam Kudah", is situated on the Indian Ocean in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's southeast coast, and a historic settlement of the ancient Batticaloa Territory (Mattakallappu Desam).
