Matt Sexton
Matt Sexton is a former New Zealand rugby union player and head coach of the Super Rugby franchise, as well as the Currie Cup team. He is currently a talent identification coach for the New Zealand Rugby Union. Playing career He made his debut for Canterbury in 1991, eventually making 128 appearances in his 10 years there. This included him leading Canterbury on their 1994 tour of the United Kingdom. He was also a member of the Super Rugby franchise in their first six seasons in the competition, although he missed the 2000 Super 12 season through injury. He was also the first forward to score a try in Crusaders colours, when he did so in the 1996 Super 12 season game against the . Hooker (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Props push in the scrums, while the hooker tries to secure the ball for their team by "hooking" it back with their heel. Alan Solomons
Alan Solomons (born 31 July 1950 in Uitenhage, South Africa) is a former rugby union coach. Law career After studying law at the University of Cape Town, Solomons practised law for 20 years where he was a partner at Sonnenberg, Hoffmann & Galombik. Professional rugby coaching career In 1997 Solomons left law to pursue a professional rugby coaching career as the assistant coach for Western Province (winners of Currie Cup), the Stormers & the Springboks. In 1998 he was appointed head coach of Western Province (Currie Cup finalists) and in 1999 head coach of the Stormers (home semi finalists in 1999), a position he held until 2001. He remained as assistant Springbok coach working with the head coach, Nick Mallett until 2001 (Tri Nations winners 1998, world record 17 unbeaten Test run & 3rd placed at RWC 1999). Edinburgh Rugby
Edinburgh Rugby (formerly Edinburgh Reivers, Edinburgh Gunners) is one of the two professional rugby union teams from Scotland. The club competes in the United Rugby Championship, along with the Glasgow Warriors, its oldest rival. Edinburgh plays most of its home games at Edinburgh Rugby Stadium. The original Edinburgh District team played the first ever inter-district match against Glasgow District in 1872, winning the match 3–0. The 2009 IRB Junior World Championship (known as the 2009 IRB Toshiba Junior World Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the second annual international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams, this competition replaces the now defunct under 19 and under 21 world championships. Tasman Rugby Union
The Tasman Rugby Union is the governing body for rugby union in Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere, a bay at the north end of the South Island in New Zealand. Headquartered in Nelson, TRU is New Zealand's newest provincial union, founded in 2006 with the amalgamation of the existing Marlborough and Nelson Bays sub unions. The 1996 Super 12 season was the inaugural season of the Super 12, contested by teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The season ran from February to May 1996, with each team playing all the others once. At the end of the regular season, the top four teams entered the playoff semifinals, with the first placed team playing the fourth and the second placed team playing the third. The winner of each semifinal qualified for the final, which was contested between the Auckland Blues and Natal Sharks, with the Blues winning 45 – 21 to win the first Super 12 title.
