''Mathia'' is a 2004 Indian Kokborok-language full-length feature film. It is written and directed by Joseph Pulinthanath and stars Meena Debbarma, Jayanta Jamatia and Amulya Jamaita. Synopsis In a remote village of Tripura, a group of youth goes for cultivating ''huk''( Jhum), singing along. They come across a house of a woman who is accused of being a ''Swkal''( Witch). The villagers treat her in an unfriendly manner, forcing her to live in isolation outside the village, until a young man named Banthu from the same group falls in love with her, who had a view different from the society. He doesn't believe in societal stigma and superstitions such as a witch living among the people. Following his belief, he tries convincing that it is not Kwchwngti who is responsible for people dying natural deaths or deaths due to induced circumstances. Kokborok
Kokborok (also known as Tripuri or Tiprakok) is the main native language of the Tripuri people of the Indian state of Tripura and neighbouring areas of Bangladesh. Its name comes from ''kok'' meaning "verbal" and ''borok'' meaning "people" or "human" and is one of the ancient languages of Northeast India. History Kokborok was formerly known as Tripuri & Tipra kok, with its name being changed in the 20th century. The names also refer to the inhabitants of the former Twipra kingdom, as well as the ethnicity of its speakers. Kókborok has been attested since at least the 1st century AD, when the historical record of Tripuri kings began to be written down. The script of Kókborok was called "Koloma". Jhum
The traditional shifting cultivation farming technique of indigenous communities and Bengalis in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh and nearby regions in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland in India is known as jhum cultivation. Anil Sarkar
Anil Sarkar (died 11 February 2015) was an Indian politician and member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was a nine-term member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly representing the Pratapgarh assembly constituency. Political career Sarkar completed his post-graduation in Bengali language from the Calcutta University, West Bengal. In 1956 he joined the Communist Party of India and later in 1964, when the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was established, he joined the CPI(M). A staunch Communist, Sarkar was first elected to the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Teliamura (Vidhan Sabha constituency) in 1972 on a Communist Party of India (Marxist) ticket and defeated his opponent Bir Chandra Barman by about 1600 votes.
