Matej Beňuš
Matej Beňuš (born 2 November 1987) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2002. He won a silver medal in the C1 event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He also won 12 medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with nine golds (C1 team: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019), one silver (C1 team: 2022) and two bronzes (C1: 2011, C1 team: 2021). He is a three-time overall world cup champion in the C1 class (2010, 2015, 2019). At the European Championships he won a total of twelve medals (8 golds, 2 silver and 2 bronzes). Career Junior His parents introduced him to this sport at a young age, and he took it up at age 11. 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 37th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 15 to 20 September 2015 in London, United Kingdom, under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF), at the Lee Valley White Water Centre facility, which was also the venue for the canoe slalom events at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The London bid was selected by the ICF Board of Directors on April 15, 2011 in Paris. London defeated Bourg St.-Maurice in the bidding process. 2016 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2016 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 17th edition of the competition and Liptovský Mikuláš hosted the event for the second time after previously hosting it in 2007. The events took place at the Ondrej Cibak Whitewater Slalom Course from 12 to 15 May 2016. This event also served as the European qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. 2013 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2013 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Kraków, Poland between June 6 and 9, 2013 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course. It was the 14th edition and it was the second time that Kraków hosted the event after hosting it in 2008. The competitions were held over two days instead of three due to floods which forced the organizers to shorten the program. The qualification for individual events consisted of a single run instead of two and the semifinal runs were skipped. Therefore, the competitions were decided in two runs instead of four. The women's C1 team event was canceled completely. 2012 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2012 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Augsburg, Germany between May 9 and 13, 2012 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 13th edition and Augsburg hosted this event for the second time after its inaugural edition in 1996. The races were held on the Eiskanal which also hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics when canoe slalom made its first appearance at the Olympics. This event also served as the European qualification for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The women's C1 team event had its first running at the European Championships, but did not count as a medal event due to insufficient number of participating countries. The 2010 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Bratislava, Slovakia between August 13 and 15, 2010 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 11th edition. 2021 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships – Teams
The teams events at the 2021 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place on 22 September 2021 at the ÄŒunovo Water Sports Centre in Bratislava. It was the 41st edition of the K1M, K1W and C1M team events, and the 8th edition of the C1W team event. Competition format Teams events in canoe slalom use a single-round format with the team with the fastest time inclusive of penalties awarded gold. Teams started in reverse order of their results at the previous World Championships in 2019. Teams consist of three athletes from the same nation, who must complete the course at the same time, often employing a technique known as 'weaving' in upstream gates, where one paddler exits the gate at the same time as the other enters in order to minimise time loss. Penalties are compounded for each gate, such that a team can incur a total of 150 seconds of penalties on a single gate (if all three miss it) or 6 seconds (if all three touch it). The 2021 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from 22 to 26 September 2021 in Bratislava, Slovakia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 41st edition. The events took place at the ÄŒunovo Water Sports Centre which was reconstructed before the championships. Bratislava hosted the championships for the second time after previously hosting in 2011 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 2011.
