Mateba
Mateba, a contraction of the Italian words Macchine Termo-Balistiche (Thermo-Ballistic Machines), was an Italian machine manufacturer based in Pavia, Italy. It is better known for its low-barrelled revolver pistols that it produced under the leadership of Emilio Ghisoni. After a change in ownership and poor sales, the Mateba company closed in 2005, but reopened in 2014 in Montebelluna under the ownership of Domenico Libro. In 2022 this latest incarnation of Mateba got shut down owing to allegations of fraud and violations of Italian firearms law. Mateba Autorevolver
The Mateba Model 6 Unica (often known simply as the Mateba or the Mateba Autorevolver) is a recoil operated semi-automatic revolver, one of only a few of this type ever produced. It was developed by Mateba, based in Pavia, Italy. Inventor Emilio Ghisoni (1937–2008), who was also famous for later designing the Chiappa Rhino, is listed as the owner of which details the operation of the weapon. Design The Mateba Model 6 uses the recoil from firing to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer, unlike conventional revolvers, which depend on the user physically pulling the trigger and/or cocking the hammer to actuate the weapon's mechanism of operation. Emilio Ghisoni
Emilio Ghisoni (1937 – 28 April 2008) was an Italian inventor and firearm designer, best known for his innovative work with revolvers. Biography Ghisoni was born in Pavia, northern Italy in 1937, and attended university to follow a course in classical studies. His father founded a company, Macchine Termo-Balistiche (Mateba), that manufactured pasta kneading machinery and other food processing equipments. The death of his father, who ran the company, caused Ghisoni to leave school in 1956 to learn the business. He later became a mechanical engineer and a designer of food processing equipment. An avid firearms enthusiast, he had an interest in designing revolvers. His designs came from wanting to improve accuracy in international rapid-fire competitions. Chiappa Rhino
The Chiappa Rhino is a revolver produced by Italian manufacturer Chiappa Firearms. The Rhino's frame is CNC-machined from a solid block of high-tensile aluminium alloy and all internal parts are CNC-machined from steel. Chambered for the .357 Magnum/.38 Special, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, or 9×21mm cartridges, its most distinctive feature is that the barrel is on a much lower bore axis, as the Rhino fires from the lowermost chamber of the cylinder rather than from the topmost chamber in conventional revolvers.
