Massakre (band)
Massakre is a Chilean thrash metal band, and a pioneer for the genre both in Chile and throughout Latin America. The band started as a garage band from 1982 to 1984 and moved into thrash metal in 1985. They have released four studio albums, and various demos and compilations. They are also known for using corpse paint in a thrash metal band, later imitated by others. History Beginnings Yanko Tólic started his musical career forming a garage band in 1982 named Sepulcro. The band did not find much success and Tólic changed the name to Embrión. He also developed his skills by studying guitar playing, with the Chilean scene dominated by rock bands like Tumulto, Sol y Medianoche and Congreso. Influenced by acts like Celtic Frost, Slayer and Hellhammer, he changed his genre to thrash metal and established the band Massakre in 1985, by recruiting Andrés Cabrío Marchant from Necrosis. Death metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Pentagram Chile (previously known as Pentagram) is an extreme metal band from Chile, formed in 1985. They were part of the first wave of extreme metal in the mid 1980s, along with bands like Possessed, Celtic Frost, Sepultura and others. Considered as a very influential band in the black metal and death metal genres, they have influenced bands like At the Gates, Dismember, Napalm Death and Avulsed among others. Vulcano (band)
Vulcano is a Brazilian extreme metal band from Santos, São Paulo. Founded in 1981, it is one of the first Brazilian heavy metal music, heavy metal bands of note; with reference to their influence on the Latin American black metal scene, ''Terrorizer (magazine), Terrorizer'' reported that "many believe that Vulcano not only kick-started musical blasphemy in Brazil, but throughout the whole of Latin America". Garage Band
Garage rock (sometimes called garage punk or 60s punk) is a raw and energetic style of rock and roll that flourished in the mid-1960s, most notably in the United States and Canada, and has experienced a series of subsequent revivals. Corpse Paint
Corpse paint is a style of black and white makeup used mainly by black metal bands for concerts and band photos. The makeup is used to make the musicians appear inhuman, corpse-like, or demonic, and is perhaps "the most identifiable aspect of the black metal aesthetic." Corpse paint typically involves making the face and neck white and making the area around the eyes and lips black. Musicians will often have a trademark style. Other colors are seldom used, yet there are notable exceptions, such as Attila Csihar's use of neon colors and the bands Satyricon and Dødheimsgard experimenting with color as well. Slayer
Slayer was an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California. The band was formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, drummer Dave Lombardo and bassist/vocalist Tom Araya. Slayer's fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Slayer's final lineup comprised Araya, King, drummer Paul Bostaph (who replaced Lombardo in 1992 and again in 2013) and guitarist Gary Holt (who replaced Hanneman in 2011).
