Aleksei Maslennikov
Aleksei (Albert) Dmitryevich Maslennikov (russian: Алексей (Альберт) Дмитриевич Масленников; September 9, 1929 – November 30, 2016) was a Russian tenor. Maslennikov was born in Novocherkassk, Russia. In 1953 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory and in 1955 became a member of the Bolshoi Theatre where he remained into the late 1990s. His vocal style is often compared to that of the German tenor Gerhard Stolze as both men shared a likeness in singing Sprechgesang. He collaborated with composer Stefania Anatolyevna Zaranek on the operetta ''Zolotoi Fontan''. Ivan Ivanovich Maslennikov (russian: Иван Иванович Масленников; September 16, 1900 – April 16, 1954), General of the Army, was a Soviet military and NKVD commander of Army and Front level during World War II. A career Red Army officer, Maslennikov was transferred to NKVD system in 1928, and remained there until the German invasion of 1941, progressing from a counter- guerrilla squadron commander to the chief of NKVD troops. After a mixed career in field troops of World War II and three post-war years, Maslennikov returned to NKVD in 1948 and stayed there, despite political changes, until his suicide in 1954. Masļenki Border Incident
The Masļenki border incident ( lv, Masļenku robežincidents) was an attack by Soviet NKVD troops on 15 June 1940 against the Latvian border posts in the district of Abrene at the then Latvian-Soviet border on the eve of the Soviet occupation of Latvia. The incident in fact consisted of three separate nearly simultaneously launched attacks on Latvian border posts by Soviet forces at the early dawn of June 15, 1940. Two border posts were actually attacked while another already ongoing attack was suspended. As a result, 3 border guards and 2 civilians were killed; 37 were kidnapped and brought to USSR as hostages.
