Maserati 6CM
The Maserati 6CM is an Italian single-seater racing car, made by Maserati of Modena from 1936 to 1940 for the Voiturette racing class. Twenty-seven were built on the Maserati 4CM frame, with front suspension as on the Maserati V8RI, and had a successful racing career from 1936 to 1939. The 6CM was introduced to the world at the 1936 Milan Motor Show. Maserati spent much of its early years manufacturing cars for privateers in the racing field. The Maserati 6CM is no exception. John Peter Wakefield
John Peter Wakefield (5 April 1915 in Marylebone, London – 24 April 1942 in Wargrave, Berkshire) was an English racing car driver. He debuted in a British Alta (1936), next year in a Maserati 6CM at Gran Premio di Firenze, 10th place (1937), ran a British ERA (1938), and became the second to own a Maserati 4CL (1939), in which he won the Grand Prix of Naples, the French GP in Picardy, and the Grand Prix de l´Albigeois, coming in second at Rheims and third at the Prix de Berne. During the Second World War Wakefield joined the Fleet Air Arm. Rudolf Uhlenhaut
Rudolf Uhlenhaut (15 July 1906 – 8 May 1989) was a British-German engineer, driving engineer for Mercedes-Benz, and the father of Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and 300 SLR. He had a long association with the Mercedes-Benz racing programme of the 1930s and 1950s, and is best known for his road legal '' Uhlenhaut Coupé'' version of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR race car. Early life Uhlenhaut was born in London, the second of four children, on 15 July 1906, during his German-born father Max Uhlenhaut's term as head of the London branch of the Deutsche Bank. 1938 Donington Grand Prix
The 1938 Donington Grand Prix was a Grand Prix motor race held on 22 October 1938 over 80 laps of the Donington Park circuit. The race was won by Tazio Nuvolari driving an Auto Union. The race was organised by the Derby & District Motor Club and not by the Royal Automobile Club, and so is not generally accorded the title "British Grand Prix", notwithstanding that the race was run to the then-current international formula and attracted entries from the top teams, and that there were no other Grand Prix races organised that year in Great Britain. The race was originally scheduled for the 1st of October, with the German Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union teams arriving a few weeks early to prepare, but due to the German invasion of Czechoslovakia, war seemed imminent, so the Germans made to leave, and the French entries seemed unlikely, so the decision was made to cancel the race. Luigi Villoresi
Luigi Villoresi (16 May 1909 – 24 August 1997) was an Italian Grand Prix motor racing driver who continued racing on the Formula One circuit at the time of its inception. Biography Born in Milan, Lombardy, and nicknamed "Gigi", he was the older brother of race car driver Emilio Villoresi who co-piloted with him in several races at the beginning of their careers. From a prosperous family, Villoresi could afford to buy a car and began competing in local rallies at the age of twenty-two with a Lancia Lambda and a few years later acquired a Fiat Balilla with which he and his brother Emilio competed in the Mille Miglia. In 1935, he raced in the Coppa Ciano, finishing third and went on to capture the Italian driving championship in the 1100 cc sports car class. Aldo Marazza
Aldo Marazza (1912 – 11 September 1938) was an Italian voiturette racing driver, regarded as the most promising at the time. Marazza was born in Milan, where he also died. He won his first race, at the 1937 Circuito della Superba Voiturette race at Genoa, racing his privately owned Maserati 4CS (#1519), previously owned by Count Giovanni Lurani and Giuseppe Gilera. Targa Florio
The Targa Florio was a public road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near the island's capital of Palermo. Founded in 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. While the first races consisted of a whole tour of the island, the track length in the race's last decades was limited to the of the Circuito Piccolo delle Madonie, which was lapped 11 times. After 1973, it was a national sports car event until it was discontinued in 1977 due to safety concerns. Grand Prix Of Naples
The Grand Prix of Naples was an auto racing event, held in Posillipo, outside Napoli. In its original incarnation, it began in 1934. Known as the ''Coppa Principessa di Piemonte'' in honor of Marie-José of Belgium, it continued from the same event held in 1933 in the Circuito Province Meridionale. It was held again from 1937 to 1939, although from 1938 it was purely a Voiturette race and attracted all-Maserati entries. After World War II it was restarted as the ''Gran Premio di Napoli'', starting in 1948. The race took place at the ''Circuito di Posillipo'', going along the Via A. Manzoni and Via Nuova Parco. Starting in Formula Two regulations, but from 1954 it became either a sports car racing, sports car race or a non-Championship Formula One race. It was last held in 1962. Scuderia Ambrosiana
Scuderia Ambrosiana was an Italian motor racing team that competed in Grand Prix motor racing and the Formula One World Championship. The team was founded in 1937 by drivers Giovanni Lurani, Luigi Villoresi, Franco Cortese and Eugenio Minetti and was named after the patron saint of Milan, Saint Ambrose. The team's cars were painted in blue and black after the colours of F.C. Internazionale Milano, which at the time went under the name Ambrosiana Inter. The team competed at the Targa Florio in 1937, 1938 e 1939, where it finished second, third, and second again with Lurani, Cortese and Villoresi.
