María Cambrils
María Cambrils Sendra (1878 – 22 December 1939) was a Spanish writer and feminist. She was self-taught and became part of the working class intellectual elite as a writer and lecturer. She published numerous articles in the workers' press, especially ''El Socialista''. She is the author of the 1925 book ''Feminismo socialista'', a reference on women's rights and feminist and socialist action. Biography María Cambrils was the daughter of a laborer and an illiterate mother who emigrated from Pego, Alicante to Valencia, where she lived most of her life. She probably married very young, to José Martínez Dols. Upon his death, the investigation into her life indicated that she lived in an unidentified convent and may even have been a nun for a time after becoming a widow. In her writings she recalls her "conventual life" and demonstrates the handling of religious texts with solvency, however precise data have not been located. In Spain, a Casa del Pueblo ( es, House of the People) refers to a typical local branch office of both the PSOE and the Unión General de Trabajadores. Historically, the term has been used to describe clearing houses of information for Spanish employees and workers. A large number of societies and labor organizations were often housed in ''casas del pueblo''. ''Levante-El Mercantil Valenciano'' is a Spanish regional newspaper from the Valencian Community that belongs to the Prensa Ibérica media holding. It had a brief precedent in ''Avance'' (30 March – 15 April 1939) and it was the bulletin of the Valencian section of the FET y de las JONS. The newspaper later belonged to the ''Movimiento'' (official Francoist political movement) press. From 1977 it belonged to the ''Medios de Comunicación Social del Estado'' (Social Communication Media of the State) and in 1984 it was purchased by the private enterprise Prensa Valenciana. Maria Dolors Bramon Planes (born 31 December 1943) is a Spanish philologist, historian, and university professor specializing in the Muslim world. Biography Dolors Bramon married Ernest Lluch in 1966, with whom she had three daughters – Eulàlia, Rosa, and Mireia – and whom she accompanied to Valencia in 1970 when he joined its University. They lived there for a decade, until 1977. From 1968 to 1983 she was an editor of the ''Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana''. In December 1977 she graduated from the University of Barcelona, where from 1979 to 1984 she was an assistant professor and received a doctorate in Semitic Philology. In 1984 she became an interim assistant professor at the University of Zaragoza, and secured a titled position in 1986. Ernest Lluch Martín, (21 January 1937 – 21 November 2000) was a Spanish economist and politician, member of the Socialists' Party of Catalonia (PSC). He was Minister of Health and Consumption from 1982 to 1986 in the first Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) government of Felipe González. He was assassinated in 2000 by the Basque separatist organisation, ETA. Background Lluch was born in Vilassar de Mar, Barcelona province. He earned a PhD in Economic Sciences at the University of Barcelona (UB), and studied further at the Sorbonne in Paris. While he was a lecturer at the UB, he was arrested on several occasions and expelled from the university because of his anti-francoist political activity. Ferdinand August Bebel (22 February 1840 – 13 August 1913) was a German socialist politician, writer, and orator. He is best remembered as one of the founders of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Germany (SDAP) in 1869, which in 1875 merged with the General German Workers' Association into the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (SAPD). Carmen Alborch
Carmen Alborch Bataller (31 October 1947 – 24 October 2018) was a Spanish politician, writer, and minister of culture. Biography and career Alborch gained a doctorate in law with particular specialty in mercantile law. She directed the Valencia Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) between 1988 and 1993. She became politically active with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1992 and served as Minister of Culture from 1993 to 1996 in the last government of Felipe González. She was the recipient of the Gran Cruz de Carlos III and the Gran Cruz del Mérito Civil, and the Progressive Women's Award.
