Maryna Piddubna
Maryna Piddubna (born 7 May 1998) is a Ukrainian Paralympic swimmer. Career Piddubna has a visual impairment and competes in S11-class races. She competed at the 2012 Paralympic Games and won a bronze medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games in the 50 metre freestyle S11 event. Liesette Bruinsma from the Netherlands also won a bronze medal in the race as they both finished in 31.23 seconds. She won bronze medals at the World Para Swimming Championships in 2013 and 2015 both of which were in the 100 metre backstroke S11 event. She competed again in 2019 where she won a gold medal in the 50m freestyle S11 event, silver medals in the 100 metre freestyle S11 and 200 metre individual medley SM11 events and a bronze medal in the 100 metre backstroke S11 event. Paralympic Swimming
Para swimming is an adaptation of the sport of swimming for athletes with disabilities. Para swimmers compete at the Summer Paralympic Games and at other sports competitions throughout the world. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Both men and women compete in para swimming, racing against competitors of their own gender. Swimming has been a part of the Paralympic program since the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. The Order of Princess Olga ( uk, Орден княгині Ольги) is a Ukrainian civil decoration, featuring Olga of Kiev and bestowed to women for "personal merits in state, production, scientific, educational, cultural, charity and other spheres of social activities, for upbringing children in families". It was established by Presidential Decree № 827/97 of 15 August 1997 and has three grades (classes), the first being the highest. The 1st grade medal is adorned with four rectangular amethysts and features a gilded ornament with silver parts. The two other grades also feature precious stones. Both Ukrainian citizens and foreigners are eligible for the order. The order can be rescinded by the President of Ukraine if a bearer is convicted of a serious crime. Liesette Bruinsma
Liesette Bruinsma (born 9 September 2000) is a Dutch Paralympic swimmer. She competes in S11 classification events for athletes with visual impairments. She is the 2016 double Paralympic champion within her classification. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's 400 metre freestyle S11, and Women's 100 metre freestyle S11, winning silver medals. Swimming career Bruinsma first competed for the Netherlands at Glasgow in 2014. Her first major international competition was the 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships in Funchal, where she competed in six events, and took a medal in five of them. Three of her Funchal medal's were gold: 400 m freestyle (S11), 100 m breaststroke (SB11) and the 200 m find. medley (SM11). S11 (classification)
S11, SB11, SM11 are disability swimming classifications for blind swimmers. Sport This classification is for swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. Jane Buckley, writing for the Sporting Wheelies, describes the swimmers in this classification as having: "unable to see at all and are considered totally blind (see IBSA B1 – appendix). Swimmers must wear blackened goggles if they swim in this class. They will also require someone to tap them when they are approaching a wall." Getting classified Internationally, the classification is done by the International Blind Sports Association.
