Maryland Route 138
Maryland Route 138 (MD 138) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state highway runs from MD 45 in Hereford east to MD 23 near Shawsville. MD 138 connects northern Baltimore County with northwestern Harford County via the community of Monkton on Gunpowder Falls. The first section of the state highway was built east of Monkton in the 1910s. The remainder of MD 138 was built west of Monkton in the mid-1920s and east of Monkton in the early to mid-1930s. The state highway through Monkton was maintained by Baltimore County from the late 1960s to the mid-1990s, during which the highway was relocated at Gunpowder Falls. Monkton is an unincorporated community in northern Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. It has a population of approximately 4,856 people. The community is in area, with approximately . As an unincorporated area, Monkton has no legally defined boundaries, and its ZIP code (21111) includes a portion of adjacent Harford County. The community was named after Moncton, New Brunswick by Robert Cummings, a Pennsylvanian. Cummings initially named it ''Monckton Mills'' in honor of Rosanna Trites, a former love who was among the Pennsylvania Germans who had moved to Moncton in 1765. Cummings had also gone to Moncton, but returned in 1773 and settled at his uncle's estate in this community. Northern Central Railroad
The Northern Central Railway (NCRY) was a Class I Railroad connecting Baltimore, Maryland with Sunbury, Pennsylvania, along the Susquehanna River. Completed in 1858, the line came under the control of the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) in 1861, when the PRR acquired a controlling interest in the Northern Central's stock to compete with the rival Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O). For eleven decades the Northern Central operated as a subsidiary of the PRR until much of its Maryland trackage was washed out by Hurricane Agnes in 1972, after which most of its operations ceased as the Penn Central declined to repair sections. Maryland Route 562 (MD 562) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state highway runs from Markoe Road north to MD 138 near Monkton in northeastern Baltimore County. My Lady's Manor
My Lady's Manor is a national historic district at Monkton, Baltimore County and Jarrettsville, Harford County, Maryland, United States. It is a rural or agricultural area, with one village, Monkton. Monkton first developed around a water-powered grist mill and later became a station on the Northern Central Railway. The manor itself was established in 1713.
