Mary Sinnott
Mary Sinnott born 1943 in Aughfad, County Wexford, Ireland as Mary Dinan, is a former camogie and badminton player. Biography Mary Dinan was born Mary Sinnott in Aughfad, County Wexford in 1943. She is the daughter of John and Mai Sinnott (nee O'Connor). She has two brothers, Nicholas and Sean. Her uncle was Mick O'Hanlon a hurler in the Wexford All-Ireland winning teams in 1955 and 1956. She attended Loreto Convent in Wexford. She married Gay Dinan in Taghmon in 1968, and the couple moved to Dublin. They had one daughter, Elizabeth (born 1969). Camogie She was selected on the camogie Camogie All Stars, team of the century in 2004, and winner of All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, All Ireland medals in 1968 and 1969. She played club Camogie with Taghmon GAA#Camogie, Taghmon and Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA#Camogie, Oylegate-Glenbrien. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Gael Linn Cup
The Gael Linn Cup is a bi-ennial tournament, representative competition for elite level participants in the women's team field sport of camogie, contested by Ireland's four provincial teams with competitions at senior and junior level on alternate years. The tournament has existed in various guides since 1956, currently the senior tournament is played in even years and the junior tournament in odd years. Irish Open (badminton)
The Irish International or Irish Open in badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It was however interrupted by the two World Wars. This tournament is currently a part of the European Badminton Circuit and takes place at the end of November every year as part of the home nations loop of international tournaments that include the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open in consecutive weeks. The tournament for most part and in recent years has been an International Challenge rated event. The recent exception was in 2012, 2017 & 2018 when the tournament was downgraded to International Series due to funding. Recent editions have been held in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre except for 2007 and 2011 tournaments which were held in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship is a competition for inter-county teams in the women's field sport of game of camogie played in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Camogie Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Camogie Final being played on the second Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin. The prize for the winning team is the O'Duffy Cup. The men's equivalent tournament is the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Participants The county is a geographical region in Ireland, and each county organises its own camogie affairs. Taghmon (; ) is a village in County Wexford, Ireland. It lies on the R738 regional road, 14 km west of Wexford town and 25 km east-southeast of New Ross. Camogie All Stars
The Camogie All Star Awards are awarded each November to 15 players who have made outstanding contributions to the Irish stick and ball team sport of camogie in the 15 traditional positions on the field: goalkeeper, three full backs, three half-backs, two midfields, three half-forwards and three full-forwards. They were awarded for the first time in 2003 as an independent initiative sponsored by a hotel group and accorded official status by the Camogie Association in 2004. In 2004 a team of the century was also chosen to commemorate the centenary of the sport. O'Neill's are the present title sponsors of the awards.
