Mary James (educator)
Mary James FAcSS retired in January 2014 as Professor and Associate Director of Research at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Education. In the same year she completed her four-year term as Vice President and President of the British Education and Research Association. She was born in Dorking, Surrey, England on 21 March 1946. Her father was a carpenter and joiner and her mother was a factory worker. Mary was educated at Sondes Place Secondary Modern School and West Ewell Country Secondary School before qualifying as a teacher at Brighton College of Education. She was then in the first cohort to be awarded a BEd degree from Sussex University in 1968. Subsequently, she gained an MA from the Institute of Education University of London (1979) and a PhD from the Open University (1990). Mary James (scientist)
Mary B. James is an American physicist and educator. She is the Dean for Institutional Diversity and the A. A. Knowlton Professor of Physics at Reed College. James specializes in particle physics and accelerators. Early life and education James' father was one of the Tuskegee Airmen. She earned a bachelor's in physics at Hampshire College in 1976. She completed a PhD in accelerator physics at Stanford University in 1986. She worked at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, designing high current electron injectors for the linear collider. She studied the longitudinal bunching of transrelativistic electron beams in high space charge forces and longitudinal wake fields. At SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory she also contributed to the polarized electron injector (PEGGY). Mary-Dulany James
Mary-Dulany James (born February 1, 1960) is an American politician who has represented District 34 in the Maryland Senate since 2023. She was previously a member of the District 34A in the Maryland House of Delegates for sixteen years, representing Harford and Cecil Counties along the U.S. Route 40 corridor. Mary-Dulany James represented district 34A, formerly district 34, for 16 years having first been elected in 1998. In 2014 and 2018, James unsuccessfully ran for the Maryland Senate in District 34. In 2022, she launched her third bid for the state senate seat, this time defeating Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Disabilities and former state delegate Christian Miele in the general election. Mary Dagworthy James
Mary Dagworthy Yard James (August 7, 1810 – October 4, 1883) was an American hymnwriter. Mary Dagworthy Yard was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to a Quaker father and Baptist mother. She converted to Methodism as a child and began teaching Sunday school in the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of 13. In 1834, Yard married Henry B. James; and in 1853, she helped to found a home orphans. She became a leader in the Wesleyan Holiness Movement helping Phoebe Palmer, one of the founders of the movement; leading meetings; and writings roughly 50 hymns. She also wrote articles for publications such as ''Guide to Holiness'', the ''New York Christian Advocate'', ''The Contributor'', ''The Christian Witness'', ''The Christian Woman'', ''The Christian Standard'', and the ''Ocean Grove Record''. She also wrote ''The Soul Winner'' in 1883. James died on October 4, 1883, in New York City and is buried in her hometown of Trenton, New Jersey. References Further reading

Marijane Meaker
Marijane Agnes Meaker (May 27, 1927 – November 21, 2022) was an American writer who, along with Tereska Torres, was credited with launching the lesbian pulp fiction genre, the only accessible novels on that theme in the 1950s. Under the name Vin Packer, she wrote mystery and crime novels, including ''Spring Fire''. As Ann Aldrich, she wrote nonfiction books about lesbians, and as M.E. Kerr, she wrote young-adult fiction. As Mary James, she wrote books for younger children. Meaker won multiple awards including the American Library Association's lifetime award for young-adult literature, the ALA Margaret A. Edwards Award. She was described by ''The New York Times Book Review'' as "one of the grand masters of young adult fiction." Meaker's books feature complex characters that have difficult relationships and complicated problems, who rail against conformity.
