Mary Anne Pocock
Mary Anne Pocock, (20 July 1863 – 16 July 1946), commonly known as Bessie Pocock, was an Australian nursing sister and army matron who served in the Second Boer War and the First World War. She was awarded the Associate Royal Red Cross and thrice Mentioned in Despatches for her wartime service. Early life Pocock was born in Dalby, Queensland, on 20 July 1863 to Mary Ann (née O'Toole) and George Pocock. She was the first of their eight children. Her mother was born in Ireland and her English father became a blacksmith at Copmanhurst. The family home was called "The Punchbowl" and it was in Grafton, New South Wales. She qualified as a nurse at Sydney Hospital in 1890 and in 1899 she joined the New South Wales Army Nursing Service Reserve. Dalby () is a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Dalby had a population of 12,719 people. It is on the Darling Downs and is the administrative centre for the Western Downs Region. Geography Dalby is approximately 82.3 kilometres (51 mi) west of Toowoomba, west northwest of the state capital, Brisbane, 269 kilometres (167 mi) east southeast of Roma and 535 kilometres (332 mi) east southeast of Charleville at the junction of the Warrego, Moonie and Bunya Highways. State Route 82 also passes through Dalby. It enters from the north as Dalby–Jandowae Road and exits to the south as Dalby–Cecil Plains Road. Dalby-Cooyar Road exits to the east. Ismailia ( ar, الإسماعيلية ', ) is a city in north-eastern Egypt. Situated on the west bank of the Suez Canal, it is the capital of the Ismailia Governorate. The city has a population of 1,406,699 (or approximately 750,000, including surrounding rural areas). It is located approximately halfway between Port Said to the north and Suez to the south. The Canal widens at that point to include Lake Timsah, one of the Bitter Lakes linked by the Canal. Steenwerck (; Dutch: ''Steenwerk'') is a commune, in French Flanders, in the Nord department in northern France. It is located about north of Lille and in 2013 had a population of 3519. People from Steenwerck are known as ''Steenwerckois''. It is home to Steenwerck's ''100 km à pied'' race event, which mainly features a marathon, although most local residents prefer to merely walk one lap (roughly ).
