Marumba Jankowskii
''Marumba jankowskii'' is a species of moth of the family Sphingidae first described by Charles Oberthür in 1880. It is known from south-eastern Russian Far East, north-eastern China, North Korea, South Korea and Japan. The wingspan is 68–80 mm. It is similar to '' Marumba maackii'', but the hindwing upperside costal and distal areas are not yellow. Adults are on wing from early June to late August in Korea. Michał Jankowski
Michał Jankowski or Mikhail Ivanovich Yankovsky (September 24, 1842 – October 10, 1912) was a Polish szlachta nobleman who settled in the Russian Far East after serving a sentence in Siberia for participating in the January Uprising of 1863. After being released in 1868 he settled in the Russian Far-East in Sidemi, Primorsky Krai, in a region now known as the Yankovsky Peninsula where he established a horse-breeding farm, reared deer for their antlers, established ginseng plantations, and became a well-known hunter and naturalist. He collected specimens of fauna and flora for museums and collectors and many species were named after him including Jankowski's bunting. ''Tilia'' is a genus of about 30 species of trees or bushes, native throughout most of the temperateness, temperate Northern Hemisphere. The tree is known as linden for the European species, and basswood for North American species. ''Marumba maackii'', the Manchurian hawkmoth, is a species of moth of the family Sphingidae. It is known from the Russian Far East, north-eastern China, North Korea, South Korea and Hokkaido in northern Japan. The wingspan is 78–96 mm. It can be distinguished from all other ''Marumba'' species by the buff-yellow colour of the costal and distal margins of the hindwing upperside. There are two spots touching and thus forming an eight-shaped marking located on the tornus. There is one main generation in the Russian Far East with adults on wing from June to late July. Charles Oberthür (entomologist)
Charles Oberthür (14 September 1845 – 1 June 1924) was a French amateur entomologist specializing in lepidoptera. Biography Charles Oberthür was born in Rennes, the son of the printer François-Charles Oberthür and Marie Hamelin, and brother of the entomologist René Oberthür. At the age of sixteen he entered the family printing house (which was responsible in particular for printing postal calendars and national lottery tickets) and quickly became a good lithographer. In 1870, he married Louise Le Ray. He is buried in the Cimetière du Nord in a chapel built by his brother-in-law Emmanuel Le Ray, a municipal architect. Politics Oberthür was for some time a member of the municipal council of Rennes. Between 1900 and 1906, he served as first deputy to the mayor, Eugène Pinault.
