Marty Kavanagh (hurler)
Martin Kavanagh (born 1994) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a right corner-forward for the Carlow senior team. Born in Bahana, County Carlow, Kavanagh first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Borris Vocational School. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Carlow minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He was part of the famous Carlow team that won the Joe McDonagh cup in 2023 He made his senior debut during the 2012 championship. At club level Kavanagh is a four time Carlow Senior Hurling Championship medallist with Saint Mullin's gaa. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. For the majority of its existence, the All-Ireland Championship has been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. James Toher
James Toher (born 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays centre back for the Meath senior team. Born in Trim, County Meath, Toher first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Meath minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2012 league. Toher quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen and has since won one Christy Ring Cup medal (2016). He captained his side to this historic win, lifting the cup twice in a single month after a controversial scoreline deemed correct by the referee was overturned by the CCC and a replay awarded. At international level, Toher has played for the composite rules shinty-hurling team, captaining the U21s in 2013 and 2014 and made his senior debut in 2015. At club level, he plays with Trim. Alan Corcoran (born 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right corner-back for the Carlow senior team. Born in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Corcoran first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Presentation De La Salle. 2017 Christy Ring Cup
The 2017 Christy Ring Cup was the 13th staging of the Christy Ring Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The competition began on 22 April 2017 and ended on 10 June 2017. Meath were the 2016 champions and were promoted to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Mayo returned to the Christy Ring Cup after gaining promotion from the Nicky Rackard Cup. On 10 June 2017, Carlow won the Christy Ring Cup following a 5-23 to 4-15 defeat of Antrim. This was their third Christy Ring Cup title, their first in eight seasons. Carlow County Hurling Team
The Carlow county hurling team represents Carlow in hurling and is governed by Carlow GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Joe McDonagh Cup and the National Hurling League. Carlow's home ground is Dr Cullen Park, Carlow. The team's manager is Tom Mullally. The team has never won the Leinster Senior Championship, the All-Ireland Senior Championship or the National League. History Carlow have won three Christy Ring Championships.
