Martina Batini
Martina Batini (born 17 April 1989) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer, two-time team European champion, three-time team world champion, and 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist. Career Batini first competed both in foil and épée as a child, then specialized in foil. She won in 2006 the gold medal both in the Cadets Italian National Championships and the Cadets World Championships at Taebaek City. In 2008, she became Junior European Champion at Amsterdam. The year after, she won the U23 European Championship in Debrecen and took the third place at the Junior World Championships in Belfast. Amongst seniors, she made her breakthrough during the 2013–14 season. She took her first World Cup with a gold medal in Tauberbischofsheim after defeating reigning World champion Arianna Errigo and reigning Olympic champion Elisa Di Francisca. Elisa Di Francisca (; born 13 December 1982) is an Italian former foil fencer, Olympic champion in 2012, World champion in 2010 and three-time European champion. She won the 2010–11 World Cup series and has seven World Cup victories to her name. With the Italian team, she was Olympic champion in 2012, five-time World champion and seven-time European champion. Biography Di Francisca was born in Jesi, a town of the province of Ancona in Marche, to a Sicilian father and a mother from Marche. She is the eldest of three children: her sister Martina was born in 1984 and her brother Michele in 1991. She first tried ballet, but found it too quiet to her taste. Errigo is a nine-time team European champion, two-time individual European champion, six-time team world champion, and two-time individual world champion. Known for her aggressive and fast fencing, she is regarded as one of the greatest fencers of all time. A three-time Olympian, Errigo is a 2021 team Olympic bronze medalist, 2012 team Olympic champion, and 2012 individual Olympic silver medalist. The FIE Fencing World Cup is an international fencing competition held by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime.
