Martin Comerford
Martin Timothy Comerford (born 9 November 1978) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in London, at an early age Comerford went to St. John's Boys' National School in Ballybough Street, Kilkenny. Comerford went on to attend St. Kieran's College but was overlooked for the hurling team. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 2001 championship. Comerford later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won six All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and four National League medals on the field of play. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Comerford is a two-time Leinster medallist with O'Loughlin Gaels. Birr GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Birr in County Offaly, Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with the game hurling and is one of the most successful hurling clubs in the country. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. Each player who receives a nomination is given a medallion marking the milestone. It is considered "the most coveted sporting award scheme in the country". Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team. In his playing career he was nicknamed "King Henry" because of his directive style, dominance, competitive spirit and leadership on the field. A versatile forward who started out in the corner, Shefflin made his name in more commanding positions as a centre or full-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. Raised in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny, Shefflin served an obligatory but underrated hurling apprenticeship at St Kieran's College. Brian Dowling (hurler)
Brian Martin Dowling (born 7 March 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. He is now the manager of the Kilkenny senior camogie team. Brother of former Kilkenny hurler Seán, Dowling joined the hurling team during the 2002 National League and was a regular member of the team for just two seasons. During that time he won one Leinster winners' medal and one National Hurling League winners' medal on the field of play. At club level Dowling is a two-time Leinster medalist with O'Loughlin Gaels. All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in Ireland. The championship was contested as the All-Ireland Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2018 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2019. The final, currently held on the fourth Sunday in August, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the summer months, and the results determine which team receives the James Nowlan Cup.
