Brian Dowling (hurler)
Brian Martin Dowling (born 7 March 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. He is now the manager of the Kilkenny senior camogie team. Brother of former Kilkenny hurler Seán, Dowling joined the hurling team during the 2002 National League and was a regular member of the team for just two seasons. During that time he won one Leinster winners' medal and one National Hurling League winners' medal on the field of play. At club level Dowling is a two-time Leinster medalist with O'Loughlin Gaels. In addition to this he has also won three county club championship medals. O'Loughlin Gaels GAA
O'Loughlin Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the St. John’s parish of Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1969, replacing the St. John’s Hurling Club that started back in 1887. O'Loughlin Gaels are one of the most successful Kilkenny clubs of the new millennium, winning county titles in 2001 and 2003. In 2003, they went on to claim their first Leinster senior title. In January 2011, they claimed their second Leinster title after a 0-14 to 1-8 win against Oulart-the-Ballagh in the final. The club was named AIB Club of the Year in 1983. Ann Downey
Ann Downey (born 1957 in Castlecomer, Ireland) is a retired camogie player, winner of 12 All Ireland inter-county medals, captaining the team in 1989 and 1994, and seven All-Ireland club medals with St Paul's and Lisdowney (1) – one more than her sister Angela who was suspended for one final. Family background Her father, Shem Downey won an All-Ireland medal with Kilkenny in 1947, playing in one of the greatest finals in hurling history. Her twin sister Angela was cited in 2004 as the greatest player in the history of camogie. Career She went to school in Castlecomer before joining her sister in St Brigid’s in Callan. During their careers in the 1970s and '80s Kilkenny completely dominated the game, including winning seven senior All-Irelands in-a-row from 1985 to 1991. The 2019 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship – known as the Liberty Insurance Camogie Championship for sponsorship reasons – is the premier inter-county competition of the 2019 camogie season. The winners receive the O'Duffy Cup. The championship began on 15 June. It was won by Galway, who defeated Kilkenny in the final. The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league.
