Martian Man
"Martian Man" is a song written by Lynsey de Paul that was destined to be a track on her 1976 album ''Before You Go Tonight'' (aka ''Take Your Time''), but was shelved as part of a legal dispute with former manager Don Arden. Although the dispute was solved in de Paul's favour, the album was first released in 1990 in Japan as well as on a Best of.. CD (albeit as "My Martian Man") that was released in 1993. "Martian Man" finally appeared internationally as a track on de Paul's 2013 anthology CD, ''Into My Music: 1975-1979''. De Paul explained that the ethereal song is about former boyfriend and zany musician Roy Wood, hence the strange lyrics about a woman who falls in love with a stranded Martian. "He came to collect me at my flat and he's dyed his hair green - I thought he looked like a Martian", she said in the booklet to her ''Into My Music'' album. Before You Go Tonight
''Before You Go Tonight'' also known as ''Take Your Time'' is a Lynsey de Paul album recorded in 1976 for Jet Records, but shelved out of spite by then manager Don Arden, and not released until 1990. Then it appeared as a CD release in Japan on Century Records, and again on the Vivid Sound (with a different sleeve) under licence from Trojan Records. The album was originally called ''Singer-Songwriter'' and was finally released on de Paul's music store as ''Take Your Time'', albeit with a slightly different track listing. All of the songs were written by de Paul, except the amusing "You've Either Got It or You Ain't" (also known as "The Charisma Song"), which was co-written with David Jordan. The album was produced by de Paul. The track " If I Don't Get You The Next One Will" was released as a single in 1976 and this version is included (although a longer version was originally recorded especially for the album). Don Arden
Don Arden (born Harry Levy; 4 January 1926 – 21 July 2007) was an English music manager, agent, and businessman. He managed the careers of rock acts such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Air Supply, Small Faces, The Move, Black Sabbath and Electric Light Orchestra. Arden gained a reputation in Britain for his aggressive, sometimes illegal business tactics, which led to his being called "Mr Big", the "English Godfather" and the "Al Capone of Pop". His success story turned sour when his violent 'negotiating' methods and questionable accounting caught up with him, and he became estranged from members of his own family. Roy Wood
Roy Wood (born 8 November 1946) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He was particularly successful in the 1960s and 1970s as member and co-founder of the Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. As a songwriter, he contributed a number of hits to the repertoire of these bands. Altogether he had more than 20 singles in the UK Singles Chart under various guises, including three UK No. 1 hits. The BBC has described Wood as being "responsible for some of the most memorable sounds of the Seventies" and "credited as playing a major role in the glam rock, psychedelic and prog rock movements". All About Eve (band)
All About Eve was an English rock band. The initial creative core consisted of Coventry-born Julianne Regan (vocals), Huddersfield-born Tim Bricheno (guitar) and Andy Cousin (bass guitar), with other members changing over the years. Their highest-charting UK single was "Martha's Harbour" (1988). The band was active from 1984 to 1993, then 1999 to 2004, achieving four UK Top-50 albums. The band had been recognised for their "unique, folk-rock-influenced take" on the gothic rock style, and Regan has been described as "certainly one of the more talented singers" of the scene in the late 1980s. Julianne Regan
Julie-Ann "Julianne" Regan (born 30 June 1962) is an English-Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She achieved success in the late 1980s and early 1990s as the lead singer of the band All About Eve. AllMusic describes Regan as "certainly one of the more talented singers of the late eighties British goth rock scene". Early life (1962–1981) At the age of 15, Julianne Regan was given a Woolworths electric guitar by a cousin and taught herself to play.
