Mars Area School District is a public school district in Pennsylvania. The district encompasses approximately and serves the communities of Mars and Valencia Boroughs as well as Adams Township and Middlesex Township in Butler County. The earliest known school in the district was the Denny School, opened in 1796 in Middlesex Township. The current configuration of the district was formed in 1960 when the Mars and Valencia Boroughs combined with Adams and Middlesex Townships to form the Mars Area School District. The Mars Area School District consists of five schools. Mars is a Borough (Pennsylvania), borough in southern Butler County, Pennsylvania, Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,458 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. It is part of the Greater Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh metropolitan area. History In 1873, Samuel Parks constructed a home and a water-powered gristmill along Breakneck Creek. Parks decided to have a post office placed in his home, so he received help from his friend Samuel Marshall to help establish it. In 1877, the Pittsburgh, New Castle and Lake Erie Railroad was constructed through Overbrook, and had a station built there. Valencia is a borough in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 551 at the 2010 census. History The original name of the town was Brookside, and subsequently Sunnyside in the 1890s, but was changed for the railroad, by the time of its incorporation as a borough, due to an existing stop with the same name in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is unknown how the name Valencia was chosen. Middlesex Township is a township in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,390 at the 2010 census. Geography Middlesex Township is located in south-central Butler County, with Allegheny County to the south. The unincorporated communities of Cooperstown and Glade Mills are near the center of the township along Pennsylvania Route 8, which crosses the township from north to south. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.31%, is water.
