Adams Township is located along the southern edge of Butler County. As of the 2000 census, there were 6,774 people, 2,382 households, and 1,917 families residing in the township. The population density was . There were 2,544 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the township was 97.1% White, 0.8% African American, 0.9% Asian, and 0.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population. There were 2,382 households, out of which 41.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.0% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.5% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.17. In the township the population was spread out, with 29.9% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males. townships in 1854. With the growing population in neighboring Cranberry Township, Adams has had a steady increase in the population of people over the years. After the 2010 census, it was discovered that Adams Township had the largest population increase of any township or borough in the county as well as one of the highest in Western Pennsylvania over the previous decade.

Adams Township is within the Mars Area School District. The district consists of Mars Area Primary Center, Mars Area Elementary School, Mars Area Centennial School, Mars Area Middle School, and Mars Area High School.
