Maroua Kharbouch
Maroua Kharbouch (born 20 September 1990) is a Gibraltarian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Gibraltar 2013 and was named as the people's choice at Miss World 2013 in Bali, Indonesia where Megan Young of the Philippines won the pageant, earning her a place in the Top 6 finalists. She was the first Gibraltarian of Moroccan descent to be crowned Miss Gibraltar and the second Gibraltarian finalist at a Miss World beauty pageant. Personal life Maroua Kharbouch is a client relationship manager assistant. Her hobbies and interests include modelling, fitness and volunteering. She is of Moroccan descent with both her parents being from Morocco and is trilingual, speaking English, Spanish and Arabic. John Mackintosh Square
John Mackintosh Square (colloquially The Piazza) is a main square in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. It has been the centre of city life since the 14th century and takes its name from John Mackintosh, a local philanthropist. The Hon. Steven Ernest Linares is a Gibraltarian teacher, trade unionist, barrister and politician affiliated to the Liberal Party of Gibraltar (LPG). He is an MP at the Gibraltar Parliament and as of December 2011 formed part of the Government of Gibraltar as Minister for Sport, Culture, Heritage, Youth, Utilities, Refuse Collection, Fire Service, Civil Contingencies and Postal Services. John Mackintosh Hall
The John Mackintosh Hall, known as the John Mac Hall to locals, is the main cultural centre in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It consists of a public library, a theatre, conference hall, and several multi-purpose spaces. History The hall was built on the site the old military Grand Stores as that building had been damaged by the explosion in 1951 caused by RFA Bedenham which killed 13 people. Its name pays tribute to Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh, who in his will left a bequest to build a place that would strengthen the cultural and educational ties between Gibraltar and the United Kingdom. Gibraltar City Hall
The Gibraltar City Hall is the former city hall for Gibraltar, centrally located within the city at the west end of John Mackintosh Square. It is the office of the Mayor of Gibraltar. History The building was a private mansion built in 1819(Benady, 18) by Aaron Cardozo, a prosperous merchant of Jewish Portuguese descent who had settled in Gibraltar, as his family home. It was the grandest private mansion ever seen in Gibraltar.(Bond, 48) The three- storey house dominated John Mackintosh Square. It was erected on the site of the old hospital and chapel of ''La Santa Misericordia'' ( en, The Holy Mercy) and later prison. As a non Protestant, Cardozo was not legally allowed to own property in Gibraltar. Anthony Lima
Anthony "Tony" Lima, (born 17 January 1946) is a Gibraltarian politician, and former Mayor of Gibraltar. He was appointed to the office of deputy mayor on 1 August 2011 and to that of mayor on 1 August 2012. He was a former Customs Collector and Commanding officer of the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) unit HMS Calpe. Career Lima began his career almost 50 years before being appointed mayor when he was interviewed for Clerk Grade 2 with the then City Council at the City Hall. He subsequently became personal assistant to the then Mayor Sir Joshua Hassan and later, under the 1969 Constitution to Sir William Thompson and Sir Alfred Vasquez when duties were relocated to the House of Assembly (now the Gibraltar Parliament) on the opposite side of John Mackintosh Square. The ''Gibraltar Chronicle'' is a national newspaper published in Gibraltar since 1801. It became a daily in 1821. It is Gibraltar's oldest established daily newspaper and the world's second oldest English language newspaper to have been in print continuously.
