Markíza (also known as Televízia Markíza) is a Slovak television channel launched on August 31, 1996. The channel was founded by a later politician Pavol Rusko, and is now part of the Central European Media Enterprises (CME). It also operates television channels Doma (since 2009), Dajto (since 2012), Markíza International (since 2016) and Markíza KRIMI (since 2022). TV Markíza has built its programming strategy around family entertainment to reflect Slovakia's culture. Pavol Rusko
Pavol Rusko is retired Slovak politician, television magnate and convinced fraudster. He served as the Minister of Economy of Slovakia between 2003 and 2005 and Managing Director of TV Markíza, at the time Slovakia's most viewed private TV station, between 1996 and 2000. He currently serves a 19-year prison sentence for forging promissory notes in a conspiracy to defraud TV Markíza. Early life Pavol Rusko studied Journalism at the Comenius University, graduating in 1987. Already as a student, he worked as Sports anchor at the Slovak public TV broadcaster and was active in the Czechoslovak Socialist Youth Union. Television In Slovakia
Television stations in Slovakia broadcast in both DVB-T format (MUX-2 and MUX-3) and DVB-T2 format (MUX-1 and MUX-4). Broadcasting is mostly in the Slovak, state-owned channels have some dedicated broadcasting for ethnic minorities (always subtitled). Foreign language (with the exception of Czech) movies and shows are dubbed (rarely subtitled). Czech production is often broadcast in original, with the exception of juvenile programs. Sometimes, foreign language movies are broadcast with Czech dubbing. SuperStar (Czech And Slovak TV Series)
''SuperStar'' (previously known as ''Česko Slovenská SuperStar'') is a joint Czech- Slovak version of the Idol series' ''Pop Idol''. It was merged from '' Česko hledá SuperStar'' and ''SuperStar Search Slovakia'', which previously had three individual seasons each. The first season premiered in September 2009 with castings held in Prague, Brno, Bratislava and Košice. It is broadcast on two channels: « TV Nova» (Czech Republic) and «Markíza» (Slovakia) which have also been the broadcast stations for the individual seasons. Also both hosts have been their hosts countries before as have been three out of the four judges. Let's Dance (in English) is the Slovak version of ''Dancing with the Stars''. ''Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares'' is a television programme featuring British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay first broadcast on Channel 4 in 2004.
