Mark Rakita
Mark Semenovich Rakita (russian: Марк Семенович Ракита; born July 22, 1938) is a famed Russian two-time Olympic champion sabreur and coach from the Soviet era. Early life Rakita was born in Moscow, USSR, and is Jewish. Fencing career Rakita started fencing when he was 14. He would practice for three to six hours per day. A 1969 graduate of The Daghestan State Pedagogical Institute, Rakita earned the title of Master of the Sport (Fencing) in 1964. He trained at the Armed Forces sports society. He trained under Olympian David Tishler. World championships Rakita was one of the Soviet Union's top sabre fencers in the 1960s. As a member of the Soviet National team, he won the world championship in the team sabre in 1965, 1967, 1969, and 1971. He won bronze medals with the team in 1962 and 1963. David Tyshler
David (also "Davyd") Abramovich Tyshler (russian: Давид Абрамович Тышлер; 13 June 1927 – 7 June 2014) was a Russian sabreur, part of the first generation of internationally successful Soviet fencers (Olympic bronze medalist in 1956, and five-time World Championship finalist between 1955 and 1959). He is also known as a successful and innovative fencing coach. His notable pupils included Sergey Sharikov, Mark Midler, Mark Rakita, Viktor Sidjak, Viktor Krovopuskov, and Viktor Bazhenov. He choreographed stage and screen combat, and made cameo appearances in Russian cinema. Early and personal life Tyshler was Jewish, and was born in Kherson in what is now Ukraine. Vladimir Nazlymov (born November 1, 1945) (russian: Владимир Аливерович Назлымов) (Daghestan, USSR) - Sabre fencer and coach for USSR and later United States, to which he moved in 1991. Born in Makhachkala, Daghestan. Early years Nazlymov began fencing at a young age in Makhachkala, Daghestan. A 1970 graduate of The Daghestan State Pedagogical Institute, Nazlymov earned a bachelor's and master's degree in physical education. He earned the title of Master of the Sport (Fencing) in 1968. While fulfilling a two-year army obligation, which was mandatory for all 18-year-olds in the Soviet Union, Nazlymov was put in a special regimen where he was able to fence with the Central Sports Army Club team in Moscow. The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ( he, יד לאיש הספורט היהודי, translit=Yad Le'ish HaSport HaYehudi) was opened July 7, 1981 in Netanya, Israel. It honors Jewish athletes and their accomplishments from anywhere around the world. It is located at the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sport. It has inducted over 400 athletes and sportspersons representing 40 countries. The Hall elects new honorees each year, with submissions due December 1 for votes for the following year, and a formal induction ceremony taking place several days prior to the Maccabiah Games every four years. The Hall was founded by Joseph M. Siegman, a television producer and writer who lives in Beverly Hills, California.
