Mark Merila
Mark Merila (born November 9, 1971) is a scout for the San Diego Padres and a former professional baseball player. Amateur career Merila was born in Litchfield, Minnesota, and attended University of Minnesota. While with the University of Minnesota, he played on the school's baseball team, and was named the Big Ten Conference Baseball Freshman of the Year in 1991 and Big Ten Conference Baseball Player of the Year in 1994. In 1992, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Merila broke Minnesota single-season and career records for batting average with a .452 average in 1994 and a .393 career average. He was also selected an All-American second baseman in 1994. Near the end of his senior year at Minnesota, Merila was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was treated with radiation therapy. Glenn Hoffman
Glenn Edward Hoffman (born July 7, 1958) is an American former Major League Baseball shortstop, coach, and manager. Hoffman had a nine-year playing career in the Majors, and was manager of the 1998 Los Angeles Dodgers for the last 88 games of the season. The native of Orange, California, threw and batted right-handed; he stood tall and weighed during his playing career. Playing career Hoffman attended Savanna High School of Anaheim, California, and was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round of the 1976 June draft. He played primarily at shortstop for the Red Sox from 1980 to 1987, when he was traded to the Dodgers on August 21. In 1988, he returned to the Red Sox' organization as a free agent but spent the entire season in the minor leagues. In 1989, he signed with the California Angels, but was limited to 48 games in his final MLB season. The Spokane Indians are a Minor League Baseball team located in Spokane Valley, the city immediately east of Spokane, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest. The Indians are members of the High-A Northwest League (NWL) as an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Spokane plays its home games at Avista Stadium, which opened in 1958 and has a seating capacity of 6,752. From 1958 through 1982, excluding 1972, the Indians were in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League (PCL).
