Mark Hylton (athlete)
Mark David Hylton (born 24 September 1976) is a former British 400 metres sprinter. Hylton won a silver medal in the relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Athletics career Throughout his career, Hylton represented Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletic Club. In 1991, he won the English Schools' Junior 200 metres title by 1/100 of a second from Jamie Sykes of South Yorkshire. He also competed in and won the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) indoor 200 metres, for England. In 1993, he won the English Schools' Intermediate 400 metres title. He also went on to win the SIAB 400 metres title. Also this year he won the AAA U17 400 metres title, both indoors and outdoors. In 1994, he won the English Schools' Senior 400 metres title. He also won a bronze medal as part of a British 4 x 400 metres relay team at the World Junior Championships. Also this year he won the AAA U20 400 metres title. Slough
Slough () is a town and unparished area in the unitary authority of the same name in Berkshire, England, bordering west London. Sprint (running)
Sprinting is running over a short distance at the top-most speed of the body in a limited period of time. It is used in many sports that incorporate running, typically as a way of quickly reaching a target or goal, or avoiding or catching an opponent. Human physiology dictates that a runner's near-top speed cannot be maintained for more than 30–35 seconds due to the depletion of phosphocreatine stores in muscles, and perhaps secondarily to excessive metabolic acidosis as a result of anaerobic glycolysis. In athletics and track and field, sprints (or dashes) are races over short distances. They are among the oldest running competitions, being recorded at the Ancient Olympic Games. 1997 World Championships In Athletics
The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between August 1 and August 10, 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athens used the successful organization of the World Championships the next month during the IOC Session in Lausanne during its campaign to host the 2004 Summer Olympics as proof positive of Athens' and Greece's ability and readiness to organize large-scale, international sporting events. It was the first edition to award wild cards to defending champions even if they did not qualify for their national team. This allowed four athletes from the same country to compete in an individual event in some cases. The 5th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden on 5–13 August 1995. This edition featured 1804 athletes from 191 nations. This competition saw the women run the 5000 m event at the World Championships for the first time. Schools International Athletic Board
The Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) consists of representatives from the Schools' Athletic Associations of England, Scotland, Wales and All Ireland. The SIAB hosts a very small number of track and field and cross country running competitions annually for elite junior athletes. The English Schools' Athletic Association (ESAA) hosts three major competitions a year for athletes under 15, under 17 and under 19 years of age. The events are cross-country running, a track and field competition and combined events with race walking. Athletes from Wales, Scotland and Ireland take part in their respective national schools' competitions. The English Schools' Athletics Championships are annual national athletics competitions organised by the English Schools' Athletic Association ESAA for students in England aged 12–18 for track and field, cross country and race walking.
