Mark Carlson (born June 13, 1952) is an American composer, flutist, University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA professor, and the founder and artistic director of the chamber music ensemble Pacific Serenades. Biography Born in Fort Lewis (Washington), Fort Lewis, Washington, and raised primarily in Modesto, California, Carlson attended Johnston College at the University of Redlands; received a B.A. from California State University, Fresno, in 1974, where he studied composition with Dennis Riley and David Bates; and received M.A. (1978) and Ph.D. (1984) degrees in Music Theory and Composition at UCLA, where he studied with Alden Ashforth and Paul Reale. His principal flute teacher was Roger S. Stevens, with whom he studied privately beginning in 1972. In 1982, he founded the Los Angeles-based chamber ensemble, Pacific Serenades, for which he continues to serve as artistic director. Mark A. Carlson (born 1955) is a software engineer known in the systems management industry for his work in management standards and technology. Mark was the first employee of a small startup in Boulder, Colorado called Redcape Policy Software. Sun Microsystems acquired the company and its technology in 1998 and subsequently promoted it as Jiro, a common management framework based on Java and Jini. Carlson is probably best known for his work on the development of a storage management standard called SMI-S for the SNIA, serving as the chair of the group overseeing the specification for several years. The specification is now an ANSI and ISO standard. In addition to SMI-S, Mark also has led the development of a reference implementation of the XAM standard, a next generation storage interface with support for metadata, query and compliance based data retention of fixed content. Mark Carlson (born February 5, 1969) is the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders President, Head Coach and General Manager. In 2016, he became the second United States Hockey League (USHL) coach to reach 1,000 games. Early life and education Carlso was born in the Lawrenceville section of Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. Carlson attended the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 1990 until 1993. Mark Carlson (quarterback)
Mark Carlson was a quarterback who played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team from 1976–1979, and later for the Chicago Fire of the now-defunct American Football Association. During his senior year in 1979, Carlson passed for 2188 yards and 11 touchdowns, which was good enough to earn him Team MVP honors on a squad that finished 4-6-1 under first-year head coach Joe Salem. History Carlson played high school football at Deerfield High School under noted coach Paul Adams. During his tenure with the Gophers, Carlson competed with Wendell Avery for the starting quarterback position, both having varying success at different times during this period.
