Mark Allan Robinson
Mark Allan Robinson (born January 20, 1975) was the proponent of the first recall petition in Canadian history to remove an elected politician that reached the required threshold to force a by-election. Robinson was born in Penticton, British Columbia, and was active politically from the age of 18, sitting on various local government committees and boards of directors for non-profit organizations. In the spring of 1998, Parksville-Qualicum Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Paul Reitsma had been caught by Cam Purdy, editor of local Parksville newspaper, ''Parksville/Qualicum Beach Morning Sun'', writing letters to the editor for years praising himself and signing them under fabricated names. A recall election (also called a recall referendum, recall petition or representative recall) is a procedure by which, in certain polities, voters can remove an elected official from office through a referendum before that official's term of office has ended. Recalls, which are initiated when sufficient voters sign a petition, have a history dating back to the constitution in ancient Athenian democracy and feature in several current constitutions. In indirect or representative democracy, people's representatives are elected and these representatives serve for a specific period of time. Coombs, British Columbia
Coombs is a small community on Vancouver Island in the Regional District of Nanaimo, British Columbia, situated on provincial highway 4A approximately west of Parksville. Coombs is home to approximately 1,327 people and is renowned for its Old Country Market (which features a family of goats living on the roof), Butterfly World (which includes a small indoor tropical rainforest), the 106 year old Coombs Fall Fair and the Coombs Bluegrass Festival held every B.C. Errington, British Columbia
Errington is a small community on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, located on Errington Road, off Highway 4, just south of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. The unincorporated rural community is part of the Regional District of Nanaimo's Electoral Area F. In 2016, this rural residential and farming community had a population of 2,677. There is a designated village centre with a post office, general store, community hall, cemetery and other businesses. Established in 1922, the Errington War Memorial Hall and adjacent park host such annual events as the seasonal Errington Farmers' Market, Hi Neighbour Day, Pumpkin Trail, vaudeville show, and craft sales in addition to a regular community coffee houses and a professional concert series.
