Mark Adams (artist)
Mark Adams (October 27, 1925 – January 24, 2006) was an American artist best known for his watercolors of still life subjects. He was also a designer of tapestries and stained glass. Biography Adams was born in Fort Plain, New York. He attended Syracuse University for two years (1943 to 1945) before moving to New York City to study with the painter Hans Hofmann (1945 to 1947). He later went to France to study tapestry-making with Jean Lurçat (1955). Early in his career, Adams was a designer of tapestries and stained glass. He designed the windows for Temple Emanu-El and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. He created over two dozen tapestries, some of which are in the de Young Museum and the San Francisco International Airport. He was commissioned to create a 30-foot tapestry for the headquarters of Weyerhaeuser. In 1963, he won the Rome Prize. Mark Adams (born 1949) is one of New Zealand's most distinguished photographers. He was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and attended the Canterbury University School of Fine Arts from 1967–1970, majoring in graphic design to get access to photography. ''I learned bugger all at art school. Tom Palaskas, a fellow student, taught me how to develop film and print. I taught myself how to use cameras. Then I discovered the art schools 4 x 5-inch Linhof plate camera and taught myself how to use that. That changed everything. That was the future.'' After art school Adams became interested in painting through a long-term friendship with the artist Tony Fomison and later Theo Schoon. Best known for his work on documenting Samoan tatau (tattooing), Maori-Pakeha interactions around Rotorua, and historic sites around New Zealand, Adam's work has been extensively exhibited within New Zealand as well as Europe, Australia and South Africa. Mark Adams (born 11 December 1961, in London) is an English car designer. He is current senior car designer at Opel Automobile and has worked as for brands including Cadillac, Buick and Opel. Career Adams studied both engineering and design and has masters in automotive design from the Royal College of Art in London. Adams started his career with Ford. Adams joined GM's former German brand Opel in 2002 as the newly created Director of Exterior Design role, responsible for exterior design of all Opel vehicles. He was appointed Vice President GM Europe Design in June 2007 where he created the consolidated GM Europe Design Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany and was responsible for designing cars across GM’s Opel, Saab and Saturn marques. In August 2012 he became Executive Director of Design for Cadillac and Buick in the US. Slave was an American Ohio-based funk band popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Washington, born in New Jersey, attended East Orange High School, and was one of the first users of the "electric trumpet". He and Trombonist Floyd Miller formed the group in Dayton, Ohio in 1975. Career During late 1975 and spring of 1976, trombonist Floyd Miller teamed with trumpeter Steve Washington to form Slave. The original line-up included Tom Lockett Jr. (tenor and alto sax), Carter Bradley (keyboards), Mark Adams (bass), Mark "Drac" Hicks (lead and rhythm guitar, background vocals), Danny Webster (rhythm and lead guitar, lead and background vocals), Orion "Bimmy" Wilhoite (alto and tenor sax), and Tim "Tiny" Dozier (drums). Mark Adams (born May 14, 1956) is an American college basketball coach who was most recently the coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders men's basketball team. Coaching career After playing basketball at South Plains College, Adams transferred to Texas Tech, where he served as a student assistant to head coach Gerald Myers. After graduating from Texas Tech in 1979, Adams landed his first college coaching job at Clarendon College, where he stayed for two seasons and posted 46 victories. From 1983 to 1987 he served as the head coach at Wayland Baptist, where went 100–39 overall and led the Pioneers to the 1985 NAIA title game. Adams would move on to become the head coach at West Texas A&M where he'd guide the Buffaloes to two NCAA Division II tournament appearances and compile an overall record of 108–40.
