Marjorie Stopford
Lady Marjorie Stopford (14 August 1904- 27 October 1996) was a Girlguiding, Girl Guide leader, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Duke of Edinburgh awards advisor, and volunteer for the Guide International Service (GIS), serving in Greek Civil War, post-civil-war Greece. Family and personal life Lady Marjorie Gertrude Stopford was the youngest child of Sir James Walter Milles Stopford, 6th Earl of Courtown and Baron Saltersford, and Gertrude Stopford, Countess of Courtown. She had four siblings and four half-siblings. She spent her childhood in Ireland at the family seat in Courtown House, County Wexford. Stopford met her partner, Florence “Cobbie” Cobb (1910-2003) through Guiding in Hertfordshire in the 1930s. Stopford moved to Bushey, Hertfordshire in 1934. She and Cobb lived together for almost 60 years, moving into Bournemead, a house Stopford inherited, after World War II. She lived there until her death in 1996. Bushey
Bushey is a town in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire in the East of England. It has a population of over 25,000 inhabitants. Bushey Heath is a large neighbourhood south east of Bushey on the boundary with the London Borough of Harrow reaching elevations of above sea level. History The first written record of Bushey is its entry in the Domesday Book of 1086, which describes a small agricultural village named 'Bissei' (which later became 'Biss(h)e' and then 'Bisheye' during the 12th century). Girlguiding Officials
Girlguiding is the operating name of The Guide Association, previously named The Girl Guides Association and is the national guiding organisation of the United Kingdom. It is the UK's largest girl-only youth organisation. Girlguiding is a charitable organisation. Within Girlguiding, participants take on adventurous activities, such as climbing, canoeing, sailing and orienteering and have the opportunity to get involved in camps and international events, including girl-only festivals and overseas development projects. World Camp (Girl Guides And Girl Scouts)
There have been several World Camps held by the Girl Guide, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, first held in 1924. Organized by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, unlike World Scout Jamborees, World Camps are not named with an Ordinal numbers (linguistics), ordinal number, nor is there an attempt to hold them at regular intervals. Foxlease, 1924 The first World Camp was held at Foxlease in 1924, from July 16 to 24, at the same time as the Third International Conference. Olave Baden-Powell and Olivia Burges formulated the idea in September 1923, during the latter's stay at Pax Hill. The original invitation was for six Guides and one Guider from each country where there were Guides. However, this was modified to accommodate those who were willing and able to send more. In total 1100 girls and women attended, 600 of which were from overseas. Forty countries were represented. Greek Guiding Association
The Greek Guiding Association ( el, Σώμα Ελληνικού Οδηγισμού, ΣΕΟ), formerly known as the Greek Girl Guides Association ( el, Σώμα Ελληνίδων Οδηγών, ΣΕΟ), is the national Guiding association of Greece. Guiding in Greece started in 1932 and became a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1933. The coeducational organization has 10,682 members (as of 2008).
