Marjorie Fair is an indie rock/psychedelic United States, American band formed in New Jersey by musician Evan Slamka, and based in Los Angeles, California. The band is best known for their debut album ''Self Help Serenade'', released in 2004 on Capitol Records. Marjorie Fair's melodic psychedelia has been compared to Mercury Rev, Pernice Brothers, The Beach Boys, Grandaddy, Elliott Smith and the solo works of Jon Brion, who contributed parts to ''Self Help Serenade''. Following the release of ''Self Help Serenade'' in the UK on May 31, 2004, Marjorie Fair toured Europe and opened for acts including Modest Mouse and Doves (band), Doves. Marjorie Fair played a series of West Coast residencies in the fall, while awaiting Capitol to release their album stateside. The album did not end up being released in the United States until July 19, 2005 and was supported by a U.S. tours. Doves (band)
Doves are an English indie rock band formed in Manchester. The band is composed of twin brothers Jez Williams (guitar, vocals) and Andy Williams (drums, vocals), and Jimi Goodwin (bass, vocals, guitar). Additionally, the band employs Martin Rebelski, as a touring and session musician on keyboards. The band released four studio albums between 2000 and 2009, two of which reached #1 on the UK album charts. A compilation album, '' The Places Between: The Best of Doves'', was released in April 2010. Doves went on hiatus in 2010. During this time Goodwin released his first solo album, '' Odludek'' (2014), while the Williams brothers regrouped as Black Rivers. Jon Joseph Waronker (born May 20, 1969) is an American drummer and music producer. He is best known as a regular drummer of both Beck and R.E.M., and as member of the experimental rock bands Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta. Background Waronker was born in Los Angeles, the son of producer Lenny Waronker and actress and musician Donna Loren. He has two sisters (one being musician Anna Waronker) and two half-sisters. His grandfather was classical violinist Simon Waronker, namesake for the "Simon" character in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. Joey was a student of the renowned teacher Freddie Gruber. Mellowdrone is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed in 1999. Biography Mellowdrone originated as Jonathan Bates' solo project, but expanded to a full band with Tony DeMatteo (guitar and keyboards), Scott Ellis (drums) and Greg Griffith (bass). Griffith and Ellis were later replaced by Camila Gutierrez and Brian Borg respectively. The band's music encompasses a range of styles from lo-fi, indie rock and experimental.
