Marit Bouwmeester
Marit Bouwmeester (; born 17 June 1988 Wartena) is a sailor from the Netherlands. Bouwmeester won the gold medal in the Laser Radial class in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in Weymouth. In 2017, she won the World Sailor of the Year Award. Warten
Warten ( nl, Wartena) is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 915 in January 2017. There is a restored windmill in the village, De Ikkers. Warten is close to the De Alde Feanen National Park. Warten is the hometown of Olympic gold medallist Marit Bouwmeester (2016: Laser Radial sailing). History The village was first mentioned in 1412 as Wartena. The etymology is unknown. Warten was originally a ''terp'' (artificial living mound) village in the early middle ages. Later, it developed into a canal village. 2018 Sailing World Championships
The 2018 Hempel Sailing World Championships were held in Aarhus, Denmark, from 30 July to 12 August 2018. It was the fifth edition of the Sailing World Championships. It was the world championships for all disciplines used at the next olympics. Sailors from over 100 nations raced in the waters of the Bay of Aarhus for world championships medals and the possibility to be qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The event took place on the Docklands, at the exact spot where the Vikings founded Aarhus. Sailing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification
This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics . 350 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Host nation Japan has been guaranteed one quota place in each of the ten classes. The qualification period commences at the 2018 Sailing World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, where about forty percent of the total quota will be awarded to the highest finishing NOCs. Weymouth and Portland was a local government district and borough in Dorset, England. It consisted of the resort of Weymouth and the Isle of Portland, and includes the areas of Wyke Regis, Preston, Melcombe Regis, Upwey, Broadwey, Southill, Nottington, Westham, Radipole, Chiswell, Castletown, Fortuneswell, Weston, Southwell and Easton; the latter six being on the Isle of Portland.
