Marisa Sanchez
Marissa Sanchez is a Filipino former professional tennis player. A native of Pampanga, Sanchez became the top player in the Philippines for the first time in 1975, when she both the National Tennis Open and Philta Open. In 1977 she was part of the first Philippines squad to compete at the Southeast Asian Games and was runner-up to Indonesia's Yolanda Sumarno in singles, with her silver medal the first of any colour attained by a Filipino at the event. The Southeast Asian Games, also known as the SEA Games, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. 1977 Southeast Asian Games
The 1977 Southeast Asian Games ( ms, Sukan Asia Tenggara 1977), officially known as the 9th Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19 to 26 November 1977. This was the third time Malaysia hosted the games and its first since 1971. Previously, it also hosted the games for the first time in 1965. Brunei, Indonesia, and the Philippines were finally admitted into the SEAP Games Federation in February that year. Although the word 'Peninsula' was omitted from the new federation title to reflect the expansion, in which the games is the first games to bear the name, its emblem (which featured six rings representing the six founding members), and the sequential numbering of the games was kept to provide continuity, as well as reverence to the objectives, aspirations and contributions of the founders. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Yolanda Mangadil-Soemarno (born 30 July 1946) is a former tennis player. Born in North Sulawesi, Soemarno played Federation Cup tennis for Indonesia between 1976 and 1981. She was the singles gold medalist at the 1977 Southeast Asian Games and won a team bronze medal at the 1978 Asian Games.
