Marion Reid
Marion Loretta Reid, (born January 4, 1929) is a former Canadian politician, the first female Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, and the 24th as well as first female, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Born in North Rustico, Prince Edward Island, the daughter of Michael Doyle and Loretta Whelan, she was first elected in 1979 to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the district of 1st Queens. She was re-elected in 1982 and 1986. She was Deputy Speaker, Speaker and Opposition House Leader. She was Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1990 to 1995. In 1994, the PEI Council of the Girl Guides of Canada created an award in her name in recognition of her contributions. Robert Lloyd George MacPhail, (March 22, 1920 – July 2, 1995) was a Canadian politician and the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. Born in New Haven, Prince Edward Island, the son of Robert Archibald MacPhail and Catherine C. MacLean, he was first elected in a 1961 by-election to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island as the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the district of 2nd Queens. He was re-elected in 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1979 and 1982. He held many cabinet positions including: Minister of Industry and Natural Resources and of Tourism Development (1965–1966), Minister of Finance (1979–1981), Chairman of the Treasury Board (1979–1981), and Minister of Development (1979–1980). Girl Guides of Canada (GGC; french: Guides du Canada) is the national Guiding association of Canada. Guiding in Canada started on September 7, 1910, and GGC was among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928. History Mary Malcolmson organized the first Canadian Girl Guides Company to be officially registered in St. Catharines, Ontario; their registration is dated 1910-01-11.
