Marion Center is a borough in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 413 at the 2020 census. History The village was laid out by John Park in 1841 and named Marion after the Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion. The ''Indiana Register'' first advertised lots for sale on September 1, 1841. Marion became incorporated as a borough in June 1869. The post office used a name distinct from the town (Brady Post Office) until December 26, 1890 when both were changed to Marion Center. In 1885, New York banker Adrien Iselin purchased the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway. A branch near the Jefferson-Indiana County Line (Indiana Junction) led south into Indiana County ending at Vintondale. The tracks from Jefferson County into Indiana County were first laid near Juneau in October 1902. Trains ran through Marion Center by April 1903. Vintondale is a borough in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 414 as of the 2010 census. History Vintondale was founded by Warren Delano IV, maternal uncle of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1892. He was a property owner and mayor of the town. The town was described as "wild and wooly" upon its founding. The Vinton Colliery Company operated in the town and ran 6 mines, 152 coke ovens, and one of the first long wall mining operations within the U.S. It was the scene of many clashes between company guard and union organizers. Area code 724 is a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania telephone area code in western and southwestern Pennsylvania, including most of the suburbs of Pittsburgh. It was split from area code 412 on February 1, 1998. Originally, Bell Atlantic wanted to implement 724 as an overlay of 412. However, overlays were still a new concept at the time, and met with some resistance due to the requirement for ten-digit dialing. For this reason, 724 was implemented as a split, with nearly all of the old 412 territory outside Allegheny County getting the new area code, making it one of the six pairs of "doughnut area codes" in the numbering plan. Within only two years, both 724 and 412 were on the verge of exhaustion due to the Pittsburgh area's rapid growth and the proliferation of cell phones and pagers.
