Mario Rossy is a jazz bassist, composer, and educator. Biography In 1988, Rossy was a bassist for Tete Montoliu's ''And Orquestra Taller De Musics'' recording. In 1993, Rossy played on the albums '' New York-Barcelona Crossing, Volumen 1'' and '' New York-Barcelona Crossing, Volumen 2'', with saxophonist Perico Sambeat, pianist Brad Mehldau, and drummer Jorge Rossy, Mario's brother. A further recording from that year, '' When I Fall in Love'', without Sambeat, was credited to the Mehldau & Rossy Trio. Tete Montoliu
Vicenç Montoliu i Massana, better known as Tete Montoliu (28 March 1933 – 24 August 1997) was a Spanish jazz pianist from Catalonia, Spain. Born blind, he learnt braille music at age seven. His styles varied from hard bop, through afro-Cuban, world fusion, to post bop. He recorded with Lionel Hampton in 1956 and played with saxophonist Roland Kirk in 1963. He also worked with leading American jazz musicians who toured in, or relocated to Europe including Kenny Dorham, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Lucky Thompson, and Anthony Braxton. Tete Montoliu recorded two albums in the US, and recorded for Enja, SteepleChase Records, and Soul Note in Europe. Biography Montoliu was born blind, in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain, and died in the same city. Brad Mehldau
Bradford Alexander Mehldau (; born August 23, 1970) is an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Mehldau studied music at The New School, and toured and recorded while still a student. He was a member of saxophonist Joshua Redman's Quartet with bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade in the mid-1990s, and has led his own trio since the early 1990s. His first long-term trio featured bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy; in 2005 Jeff Ballard replaced Rossy. These bands have released a dozen albums under the pianist's name. Since the early 2000s, Mehldau has experimented with other musical formats in addition to trio and solo piano. Jorge "Jordi" Rossy (born August 21, 1964) is a jazz drummer, pianist and vibraphonist. Early life Rossy was born in Barcelona. He started playing drums at age 11. Later life and career Between 1980 and 1989, Rossy toured and recorded extensively with several musicians in the Spanish jazz scene, as well as with internationally acclaimed artists such as Woody Shaw, Kenny Wheeler, Jack Walrath, David Schnitter, Sal Nistico, Sean Levitt, and others. In 1989, he moved to Boston to study trumpet at Berklee College of Music. In Boston, Rossy became the drummer of choice for many of his peers, and joined the Danilo Perez Trio for gigs in Panama, France, Boston and New York. He subsequently joined the Paquito D'Rivera Sextet for two years. Fresh Sound, or Fresh Sound New Talent, is a jazz record label established in Barcelona, Spain, by Jordi Pujol. The label was initially founded as a reissue label. The catalog includes work by musicians both major and minor that was recorded before 1962, including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker. Sources include Argo, Dawn, Prestige/New Jazz, RCA, Royal Roost, Riverside, and Verve. Mercedes Rossy
Mercedes Rossy (1961–1995) was a jazz pianist, composer and bandleader from Barcelona, Spain. Classically trained as a child, she began serious jazz studies in the early 1980s. Rossy moved to Munich in 1985, where she was active professionally for four years. In 1989, she received a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 1992. While at Berklee, she met Mark Turner and Steve Wilson, who joined her band and toured Europe with her. Rossy also performed with musicians Seamus Blake, Antonio Hart, Herb Harris, Leon Parker and Hal Crook. In 1996, Mark Turner recorded ''The Music of Mercedes Rossy'' for the Fresh Sound label. Rossy's composition "The Newcomer" was also the title track of a 1997 George Colligan album on Steeplechase. Death Rossy died on November 27, 1995, of intestinal cancer.
