Norman Quijano
Norman Noel Quijano González (born 2 November 1946) is a Salvadoran politician and former Mayor of San Salvador, under the Nationalist Republican Alliance ticket, serving from 1 May 2009 until his resignation on 15 August 2013 in order to run as a presidential candidate. He was succeeded by Gloria Calderón de Oñate while the presidential campaign was taking place. After the election, he returned to the mayor office to resume his duties. Ernesto Alfredo Castro Aldana (born 26 May 1971) is a Salvadoran politician who is the incumbent president of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador. Political career From 2012 to 2015, Castro was the secretary and private advisor to the municipal mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán, who was then Nayib Bukele. From 2015 to 2018, he served as Bukele's Secretary and Private Advisor when he was serving as Mayor of San Salvador. Castro became the private secretary to President Bukele on 1 June 2019. Zacatecoluca () is the capital municipality of the La Paz Department of El Salvador. Located in Southern El Salvador, in the Rio Lempa valley, at the foot of San Vicente (Chinchotepec) Volcano. A commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area, it also trades in cotton goods, baskets, salt, and lumber. History An earthquake in 1932 caused severe damage. Zacatecoluca was the birthplace of José Simeón Cañas, who fought for and secured the emancipation of slaves in Central America by Spaniards in 1825. The National Coalition Party ( es, Partido de Concertación Nacional, PCN) is a nationalist political party in El Salvador. Until 2011 it was known as the National Conciliation Party ( es, Partido de Conciliación Nacional, PCN). It was the most powerful political party in the country during the 1960s and 1970s, and was closely associated with the Salvadoran military. The Legislative Assembly ( es, Asamblea Legislativa) is the legislative branch of the government of El Salvador. Structure The Salvadoran legislature is a unicameral body. It is made up of 84 deputies, all of whom are elected by direct popular vote according to open-list proportional representation to serve three-year terms and are eligible for immediate re-election. Of these, 64 are elected in 14 multi-seat constituencies, corresponding to the country's 14 departments, which return between 3 and 16 deputies each. The remaining 20 deputies are selected on the basis of a single national constituency.
