Marie-Zélia Lafont
Marie-Zélia Lafont (born 9 January 1987) is a French slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2003. She won two medals in the K1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, with a gold in 2018 and a bronze in 2015. She also won two golds and three bronzes at the European Championships. Lafont participated in two Olympic Games. Orthez
Orthez (; eu, Ortheze; oc, Ortès, ) is a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, and region of New Aquitaine, southwestern France. It lies 40 km NW of Pau on the Southern railway to Bayonne. The town also encompasses the small village of Sainte-Suzanne, an independent commune until 1973; residents of the town are called either ''Orthéziens'' or ''Sainte-Suzannais''. The 2020 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of multiple races in several canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 33rd edition. Only 2 out of the 5 rounds were held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no overall winners were declared by the ICF. Pau-Pyrénées Whitewater Stadium
Pau-Pyrénées Whitewater Stadium (french: Stade d'eaux-vives Pau-Pyrénées) is the home training facility for the French national canoe slalom team. It was first used to train the French team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. It 2009, it was the first of three venues used in the canoe slalom World Cup. It is also a whitewater park for recreational use by the general public. History and Design The town of Pau has long been a center of activity for French canoe slalom. The natural rapids in the center of town are still equipped with hanging slalom gates. The 2016 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 5 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 29th edition. Calendar The series opened with World Cup Race 1 in Ivrea, Italy (June 3–5) and concluded with the World Cup Final in Tacen, Slovenia (September 9–11). Standings The winner of each race was awarded 60 points (double points were awarded for the World Cup Final for all the competitors who reached at least the semifinal stage). Points for lower places differed from one category to another. The women's K-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 25 and 27 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 27 canoeists from 27 nations competed. Background This was the ninth appearance of the event, having previously appeared in every Summer Olympics with slalom canoeing: 1972 and 1992 to 2016.
