Marie-Alice Dumont
Marie-Alice Dumont (October 10, 1892 – 1985) was a Canadian photographer living in Quebec. She is thought to be the first professional woman photographer in eastern Quebec. Dumont later studied with a professional photographer Ulric Lavoie from Rivière-du-Loup. In 1925, she opened a commercial photography studio in her home town. Dumont photographed people and landscapes of the Kamouraska region. She closed her studio in 1960 due to illness. She died in Saint-Alexandre at the age of 92. Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska is a municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, in the Kamouraska Regional County Municipality. Before July 5, 1997, it was known simply as Saint-Alexandre. History The parish of Saint-Alexandre was founded in the first half of the 19th century. It was canonically erected in 1851. The post office was first opened in 1854 under the name "''Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska''". The parish municipality of Saint-Alexandre was then created in 1855. Rivière-du-Loup
Rivière-du-Loup (; 2021 population 20,118) is a small city on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River in Quebec. The city is the seat for the Rivière-du-Loup Regional County Municipality and the judicial district of Kamouraska. Its one of the largest cities in Bas-Saint-Laurent. History The city was named after the nearby river, whose name means ''Wolf's River'' in French. This name may have come from a native tribe known as "Les Loups" ("The Wolves") or from the many seals, known in French as ''loup-marin'' (sea wolves), once found at the river's mouth. Rivière-du-Loup was established in 1673 as the seigneurie of Sieur Charles-Aubert de la Chesnaye. The community was incorporated as the village of Fraserville, in honour of early Scottish settler Alexander Fraser, in 1850, and became a city in 1910. Kamouraska Regional County Municipality
Kamouraska is a regional county municipality in eastern Quebec, Canada. The regional county municipality seat is Saint-Pascal, but the largest town is La Pocatière. The area is an important research, development and education centre for agriculture. Factories in the region produce metal products and public transportation equipment. One of the people instrumental in settling and developing this area was Pascal Taché, an early seigneur. The name "Kamouraska" comes from an Algonquin word meaning "where rushes grow at the water's edge". 'Kamouraska' comes from the Abenaki, ''ska moraskua'', which means "birch bark here", "there is some white birch bark". This sort of birch bark is used for making canoes and wigwams.
