Maria Zasypkina
Maria Yuryevna Zasypkina (Russian: Мария Юрьевна Засыпкина, born 9 December 1985) is a retired Russian artistic gymnast. She won a team silver medal at the 2001 World Championships and an individual bronze at the 2000 European Championships, on the vault. In November 2001 she sustained a severe spine injury and retired from gymnastics. Zasypkina's mother is an engineer-designer working at Almaz-Antey. Her father is a retired competitive sprint runner. Her elder sister Anna is a retired competitive artistic gymnast. Zasypkina shares surname with Svetlana Zasypkina, another Russian artistic gymnast who retired in 1988 after a similar spine injury. Tula ( rus, Тула, p=ˈtulə) is the largest city and the administrative center of Tula Oblast in Russia, located south of Moscow. Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses. World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events. The FIG was founded in 1881 and was originally entitled FEG (Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique), but changed its name in 1921, becoming the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG); this name change roughly correlates with the actual naming of the World Championships. European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The European Women's Gymnastics Championships are an artistic championships for female gymnasts from European countries organised by the European Union of Gymnastics. They are held annually, though rotate between two different formats. History Originally held biannually in odd-numbered years, the championships moved to even-numbered years in 1990. The vault is an artistic gymnastics apparatus which gymnasts perform on, as well as the skill performed using that apparatus. Vaulting is also the action of performing a vault. Both male and female gymnasts perform the vault. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is VT. The apparatus Early forms of the vault were invented by German Friedrich Ludwig Jahn. The apparatus itself originated as a "horse", much like the pommel horse but without the handles; it was sometimes known as the vaulting horse. ''A Little Doll'' (russian: Куколка, Kukolka) is a 1988 Soviet drama film directed by Isaak Fridberg. Plot The film tells about a young gymnast who is seriously injured, as a result of which she decides to leave the sport. But it’s very difficult for her to come to terms with the idea that she is now just like everyone else. Casting Svetlana Zasypkina largely plays herself, under a fictional name Tanya Serebryakova, although Fridberg wrote the script without any knowledge about her. Zasypkina was a competitive gymnast, who trained between ages 6 and 16, and then retired due to a severe back injury sustained during competitions around 1988.
