Maria Gartman

She was engaged at the Amsterdamse Schouwburg 1834–1846, at the Jean Eugène Duports Salon des Variétés in Nes 1846–56, at the Amsterdamse Schouwburg 1856–59, at the 'Vereenigde Tooneelisten' in 1859–63, a third time at the Amsterdamse Schouwburg 1863–72, at the 'Vereenigde Tooneelisten' in 1872–76, and at the 'Het Nederlandsch Tooneel' in 1876–85. The Stadsschouwburg (; Dutch: ''Municipal Theatre'') of Amsterdam is the name of a theatre building at the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The building is in the neo-Renaissance style dating back to 1894, and is the former home of the National Ballet and Opera. History Rederijkerskamers The first 'rederijkers' (Dutch orators) appeared at the end of the 15th century in Amsterdam. In the 16th century, these so-called precursors of modern theatre organized themselves into 'rederijkerskamers', which can be compared to theater companies. At that time, there were no permanent theater buildings in Amsterdam, and the shipping company cherries performed on temporary stages, from carts (during processions) or in public spaces. The Academy of Theatre and Dance is a faculty of the Amsterdam University of the Arts which was known as ''de Theaterschool'' until September 2016. It runs four year Bachelor's degree courses in theatre and dance, and two year Master's degree courses offered by DAS Graduate School. The staff of instructors and guest instructors amounts to about sixty persons, nearly all also in active in the theatrical and dance field.
