Maria-Pia Casilio
Maria-Pia Casilio (5 May 1935 – 10 April 2012) was an Italian film actress, best known for major roles in '' Umberto D.'' and '' Un americano a Roma''. Born in San Pio delle Camere, L'Aquila, Casilio was quite active between 1952 and 1960, usually filling roles as a querulous and naive small-town girl. After her marriage with voice actor Giuseppe Rinaldi, she semi-retired from acting. On the Criterion Collection DVD release of '' Umberto D.'' Alberto Sordi
Alberto Sordi (15 June 1920 – 24 February 2003) was an Italian actor, voice actor, singer, comedian, director and screenwriter. Early life Born in Rome to a schoolteacher and a musician and the last of five children, Sordi was named in honour of an older sibling, who died several days after his birth. Sordi enrolled in Milan's dramatic arts academy but was kicked out because of his thick Roman accent. In the meantime, he studied to be a bass opera singer. His vocal distinctiveness would become his trademark. Career Cinema and television In a career that spanned seven decades, Sordi established himself as an icon of Italian cinema with his representative skills at both comedy and light drama. ''Bread, Love and Dreams'' ( it, Pane, amore e fantasia) is a 1953 Italian romantic comedy film directed by Luigi Comencini. At the 4th Berlin International Film Festival it won the Silver Bear award. Plot The film is set in Sagliena, an imaginary small town in central Italy; Marshal Antonio Carotenuto, an elderly womanizer who will have to adapt to the monotonous and quiet life of the village, is transferred here immediately after the war. "Cuore matto" is a song composed by Armando Ambrosino and Totò Savio, and performed by Little Tony. The song premiered at the seventeenth Sanremo Music Festival, in which Little Tony presented the song in couple with Mario Zelinotti. The single peaked at first place for nine consecutive weeks on the Italian hit parade. It sold in excess of a million copies and was awarded a gold disc in May 1967. The song also named a film, '' Cuore matto... matto da legare '', directed by Mario Amendola and starred by the same Little Tony and by Eleonora Brown.
