Margaret Preece
Margaret Preece is an English operatic soprano. She trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio. Originally from Solihull, she has worked with English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North and the Carl Rosa Company. In 2007 she starred in the high-profile West End revival of ''The Sound of Music'' as the Mother Abbess, replacing Lesley Garrett. In 2008 Margaret Preece released an album called ''Isn't It Romantic'', which features 17 songs by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by both Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein, including ''Isn't It Romantic?''. Following the closure of ''The Sound Of Music'', she played Vava in Opera North's production of '' Paradise Moscow'' in spring 2009. There were performances in Leeds, Newcastle, Salford (''the Lowry''), Nottingham and Bregenz. Moscow, Cheryomushki
''Moscow, Cheryomushki'' (russian: Москва, Черёмушки, link=no; ''Moskva, Cheryómushki'') is an operetta in three acts by Dmitri Shostakovich, his Op. 105. It is sometimes referred to as simply ''Cheryomushki''. Cheryomushki is a district in Moscow full of cheap subsidized housing built in 1956, and the word is also commonly used for such housing projects in general. The libretto was written by the experienced team of and , leading Soviet humorists of the day. The satirical plot dealt with a topical theme geared to one of the most pressing concerns of urban Russians, the chronic housing shortages and the difficulties of securing liveable conditions. 'Cheryomushki' translates to “ bird-cherry trees” and the operetta was named after a real housing estate in south-west Moscow. ''L'elisir d'amore'' (''The Elixir of Love'', ) is a ' (opera buffa) in two acts by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. Felice Romani wrote the Italian libretto, after Eugène Scribe's libretto for Daniel Auber's ' (1831). The opera premiered on 12 May 1832 at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan. Background Written in haste in a six-week period, ''L'elisir d'amore'' was the most often performed opera in Italy between 1838 and 1848 and has remained continually in the international opera repertory. (''All Women Do It, or The School for Lovers''), K. 588, is an opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was first performed on 26 January 1790 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte who also wrote ''Le nozze di Figaro'' and ''Don Giovanni''. Although it is commonly held that was written and composed at the suggestion of the Emperor Joseph II, recent research does not support this idea. There is evidence that Mozart's contemporary Antonio Salieri tried to set the libretto but left it unfinished. In 1994, John Rice uncovered two terzetti by Salieri in the Austrian National Library. The short title, ''Così fan tutte'', literally means "So do they all", using the feminine plural (''tutte'') to indicate women. It is usually translated into English as "Women are like that". Wales Millennium Centre ( cy, Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru) is an arts centre located in the Cardiff Bay area of Cardiff, Wales. The site covers a total area of . The Lowry
The Lowry is a theatre and gallery complex at Salford Quays, Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is named after the early 20th-century painter L. S. Lowry, known for his paintings of industrial scenes in North West England. The complex opened on 28 April 2000 and was officially opened on 12 October 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II.
