Marella Cruises
Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) is a British cruise line operated by TUI UK, offering cruise holidays around Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia. History The company had initially entered the cruise market in 1973, but due to rising fuel costs the venture was terminated in 1976. In 1995, Thomson restarted their cruise line after their competitor Airtours had made a successful entry in the cruise business under their Sun Cruises brand. On 9 October 2017, TUI Group announced that Thomson Cruises would be rebranded in late October 2017 as Marella Cruises, with all of the existing Thomson fleet adopting the name change either from Thomson or TUI to Marella (except Thomson Spirit which will be renamed ''Spirit'' and Thomson Majesty which will be transferred to Celestyal Cruises). Madeira ( ; ), officially the Autonomous Region of Madeira (), is an autonomous Regions of Portugal, autonomous region of Portugal. ''Marella Voyager'' (formerly MV ''Mercury'', ''Celebrity Mercury'', ''Mein Schiff 2'' and ''Mein Schiff Herz'') is the second of two s operated by TUI Cruises. Built for Celebrity Cruises at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, she was launched on 11July 1997, and was christened and entered service as MV ''Mercury'' on 27October 1997. In 2008, after some eleven years in operation as ''Mercury'', she was renamed ''Celebrity Mercury''. Meyer Werft
Meyer Werft (; ) is a German shipbuilding company, headquartered in Papenburg at the river Ems. It was founded in 1795, as a builder of small wooden vessels. It has been owned and managed by the Meyer family for seven generations. Since 1997, it has been part of the Meyer Neptun Group, together with Neptun Werft in Rostock. In 2014, the company added the Turku shipyard in Finland to the group. Since then, it has also been a builder of luxury passenger ships. 700 ships of different types had been built at the yard. The Dock 2 Hall is the third largest shipbuilding hall and the fifth-largest usable volume in the world as of 2022. The shipyard is an anchor on the European Route of Industrial Heritage. ''Marella Explorer'' is a ''Century''-class cruise ship owned and operated by Marella Cruises. Before joining TUI she cruised as MV ''Galaxy'' with Celebrity Cruises, and later as ''Mein Schiff'' with TUI Cruises. She was laid down at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on 25May 1995, was ship naming and launching, launched in May 1996, and was delivered to Celebrity Cruises on 10October 1996.
